So here's a couple of pics of the engine bay from my 1998 A3 1.8T. Posting them because i've just fitted a Carbonio CAI to replace my previous Green Panel Filter in OE Airbox setup.

Under there are a load of Forge Motorsport silicone hoses and a Forge 007p. Not the prettiest engine bay in the world but perhaps of interest to some.

My car has the AGU engine with the old style coil packs that require a seperate ignition controller to amplify the signal from the ECU. As this gets warm it is fitted with a heatsink and located in the OE airbox to aid cooling. As i've ditched the airbox i had to fabricate a bracket for the controller and locate it so that the heatsink can still function. As i've junked the OE air intake, the vents in the badge grill allow air directly in to the engine bay. I've found this still gives sufficient cooling to the controller so everything is working OK.

A lot of CAI manufacturers don't list their filters for the AGU because of this problem, but this modification allows one to be installed with out any detrimental effects. :)

nice engine bay Paul, like what you've done with the filter. But have you looked at TTDA? american airfilter "customiser" after much debating and consideration I went for one of their's. I think they're the best, but others will not agree. take a look at my engine bay pics, I've also just managed to run a cold air pipe to fit the airfilter from the fog lights. http://www.modshack.info/

Unless i'm mistaken the TTDA filter is the same as the BMC CDA / Green Dynatwist etc etc?

Being a secret chav i like the induction roar of the Carbonio. The Carbon Fibre tube really amplifies the sound :) I had a BMC CDA on my leon cupra and it's a quality piece of kit but none of these kits actually improve performance (not even the Carbonio) so it's just there for the noise.

I got the Carbonio cheap, otherwise i wouldn't have bothered at all. Logging my MAF readings has shown no increase in airflow from changing from my panel filter and i found the same with the BMC on my Leon. As none of these CAI's do anything i can't really see how one can be 'best' but the Carbonio is definately the loudest!

like the carbon fiber look. And that is one tidy bay you have there concoursneil, very nice indeed.
I recently fitted a CAI also. If you look at the bumper corner where the filter is behind, only 1 of the slats is cut out. I was thinking about carfully doing the rest, but wasnt sure as winters on the way and last thing i want is water splashing up there. Also did you sort that hunting problem....mine seems to only hunt for 10/15 seconds after driving with medium to hard boost. (7psi, standard).

wow that looks amazing, where did you get the cf cover and the cf cover at the very front of the engine?

Glad you like it guys, i do like to have engines looking a little different , but tastefull to say the least , Chrome Neuspeed strut brace next , and Inlet manifold to polish , when i can find myself a few spare hours to do it, then i will be happy with it :o.k:

i didn't bother cutting any more slats from the bumper. The filter sits right in front of the open one and it doesn't need any more airflow than that IMO.

I've still got the hunting problem. No idea what it is, if my N75 is faulty this should show up on the Dyno plot i'll be getting at the RR day at AMD. Failing that i'm completely stumped. I might try and source a replacement throttle body at some point as it could be that.
