Hello everyone. I'd really like a front armrest for my new acquired A4 Avant. One small problem, the original leather ones seem to be a fortune and the 3rd party rests look a bit dodgy. What do you all suggest? Has anyone on here bought 3rd party version, and are happy with the purchase? Are they a pain to fit? (I'm a nightmare with measuring etc!)

I've read something about needed a template to fit one, but all of the articles I've read on the WWW seem to have it missing.......

Thanks ;)

I have a chinese copy leather/PU lid and it is near on a perfect match...........it has been in the car a couple of years now and still going strong.

The base and frame are genuine but the lid is not:

Does your avant already have an armrest or you want it because you don't have one?
If it already has one it's a straight fit.
If not you'll need a centre console with the hole to fit the armrest.
And to fit it. Just remove the rear hashtray and use a 13mm spanner..

BTW..
I had to replace mine when I bought the car. And I got it from ebay. The only thing it wasn't original but very good quality..
Still have it on the car. Over 2 years now..

Wow! many thanks for all the quick replies. Sadly, my centre console doesn't have an aperture for the armrest (or indeed one fitted) What's the best 3rd party (leather) ones to buy? And are they hard to fit? Many thanks ;)

I once had an armrest bought on ebay and it comes with brackets to screw onto the centre console. But honestly it doesn't even qualify as an armrest in my book. It looks and it feels cheap..
My advice is either get a centre console from a scrap yard give it a clean and polish and fit it.
Or you can always cut the one you have and bolt it to the car..
You'll need to know if you have the mounting support for an armrest..

I've just got myself an A3 and the car is immaculate inside, I'd consider selling you the armrest if it's of any use. If you are buying second hand then be aware of the common fault in them. When pushing in the button to make the armrest go down sometimes a part inside breaks off and you can't get it down. It's a simple fix, I have had to do it on both my previous a3s and read plenty others complaints. I would need to find a blank for my centre console as I'd be removing the ashtray at the same time.

Right, on your advice, I've had a ring round the local breakers yards, and there's no armrests/centre consoles around for miles! (Do the saloon centre consoles fit?) I had a look on ebay and they're still going for a fortune. Even using a 'pick-a-part' service has proven a bust. Are the non genuine copies that bad?

@Jxly: Thanks for the offer of your armrest. Does the A3 version fit the (B6) A4?

Not 100% sure but I believe it does..
Last time I checked ebay they were going for 40 odd quid..
If you get a copy they might be good..
The ones I'm talking about its like an universal armrest with brackets. Those are bad..

Check that..
I used to have it on my previous car.

Sorry to double post - that would be great if you could have a look, Jxly. Is it kitted out in black leather?

Yeah.. I got one of those from ebay and still have it after 2 years.
And I paid around that price..
Just that. Piece of metal wasn't necessary because I already had it..
And according to the link I sent you yours too..
Let us know how you get on with it..

Nice one, Semedo. Did you order yours from the german ebay site? And I'm a bit confused about the 'piece of metal' you spoke about.........

Honestly could not say..
Don't remember..
The one I bought looks exactly like that..
The piece of metal I spoke about its the one next to the armrest in the picture.. And that piece is already in the car..
But when you see it you'll understand exactly how it bolts on because it's so easy...

Sorry for not replying. Not been on here and not been to my parents house yet. I'm going up tomorrow to steal the alloys off the a4, going to give them a good scrub too. If I remember I'll reply with info tomorrow night.
