S3 - MTC Intake Kit in White

Have tested the revised intake pipe, extending the pipe a wee bit before the MAF at the same diameter, and I can also report good things.

I've gone from -0.8 @ idle and +10.9 long Term......

.......to -0.8 @idle and long term +3.9....successful mod.

Just shows how sensitive the MAF must be. Good work getting it sorted.

Mines now done 450 miles and has settled at 5.1 and the car seems to have benefitted from it.
Glad it worked for you too mate.

What stupid question... What does it mean if the low number are better? I'm new to all of this trim stuff 😬🙈

Any issues with these to date ? Getting a shark remap at end of month and am thinking of adding one of these in blue before hand any thing I need to know ? What price are they now ? Is yer man still doing them ?

Cheers

Glad to see the work has improved the trims so much

So basically you've added a thinner piece of pipping before the MAF? I might do the same mod on ITG kit as it is currently sat at 12.1% on the 2nd install, the first settled 10.3% so it seems like just the positioning off the piping makes a difference making me think your mod could get me a lot closer to 0%

I'll be doing this mod as soon as possible then because that looks like a good return for it... I'm gonna get dash command at the start of next month so I can check values before and after tho... And i'll report back on the thread!

Thanks for heads up Marshy!

Checked my trims again just now and I'm still sat at 3.1, so for those who haven't done this extra wee bit of pipe, get it done.

Very good

Literally only registered to say a BIG thank you to Marshy for the ebay links!

I have a VW Scirocco R with this induction kit on and noticed my fuel trims are -0.6 and +8.6%.

I have fed this back to our forums too and referenced this thread.

Cheers!

Thanks mate.
Glad everyone's happy that's done this mod.

Ok, so I'm about to do this mod, but I was wondering if someone could confirm how to reset the fuel trims with VCDS first?

Cheers,

They'll automatically adjust itself after a few hundred miles.

Would it be worth while looking into this without having a MTC induction kit? Or would I be wasting my time? Thanks.

Always worth keeping an eye on them with a non standard intake. Very easy to do.

No worries, I found out that if you clear all fault codes, it resets the fuel trims anyway.

Just a waiting game now to see how it performs!

Good to know, it'll certainly make a difference.

Not that you'll actually notice any difference in performance...

but for peace of mind and knowing the car is running within safe parameters, its a much more ideal situation.

I may have one of these for sale as the insurance have just written my car off , it's been on the car about 10month so it's only done about 850 mile at a push. It's fitted with an ITG filter and the extended bit just before the maf, if I don't get another S3 then I'll let people know if it's up for grabs.

Dibbs on that :moa:

2 'ish months on from my last reading.

Finally reached perfection

That extra bit of pipe has worked like an absolute dream.

Doesn't get any better than 0!! Intake is absolutely spot on.

I'm well chuffed to be honest.

Great value, even when you add on £15 or whatever it was for the extra couple of inches of pipe.

And the result being perfection puts the cherry on the bakewell.

Not sure there's actually an after market kit out there that's has brought back '0' long term fuel trim values?

My engine is clearly running at optimum mixture now, and to be honest it feels like it.

I'd buy it again that's for sure, and I cannot recommend it enough.

*EDIT

I challenge another aftermarket intake to meet perfection also. No proof? Don't bother piping up - excuse the punn!!

Mine had dropped from 8.2 to 6.2% right enough... I've even seen a 5.1% then it jumped back up to 7% i'm confused!?? Ha

Car must be worth scrap value then surely?!

I'm sure it'll settle, perhaps some new plugs may help her out.

I checked it again tonight and it was 6.2%.... Short term never seems to go above 3.1% when monitoring it, that why i'm wondering why it hadn't brought it down.... I'll try new plugs and see if it makes a difference... Its weird tho, car seems to he running sweet as a nut!?

Won't hurt to feed her some more.

If you would like some genuine plugs I can sort you a price out with free postage. PM me if so.

Only other thing is that the MAF might be a bit tired of life?

I'm unsure of your ECU content at present, but if mapped then obviously this could play are large factor.

Yeah its sitting at stage 1.... Shark map... Tbh it is running great, might swap glow plugs 1st but i'm in no rush.. I'll see if I can get the figures down anymore, it did drop it 2%

Glow plugs?!? Found your problem mate!!!!

Lol now let's not confuse spark/glow plugs up here...

No soot chuckers allowed.

Spark plugs only!!

Spark plugs do create glow if you shine them under a neon light.... Haha you know what I mean, i'm a data comms eng, just poor terminology!

Lol and a Colt 45 will also glow quite well when 'Satan' pulls the trigger at somone confusing diesel + petrol engines!

All seriousness, if I can help with the cost of plugs, let me know.

I've had a little time on my hands today and found a 70mm outside diameter alloy pipe 6" in length and a white silicone hose
My thoughts were to reduce the pipework a further 6" before the maf.
My maf housing is 70mm outside diameter so should be 67mm inside.
These parts cost about £15 delivered do you think it would help any?
Been doing loads of research on the net.

Now ordered them and some stainless jubilee clips, it maybe a waste of £20 or it may sort my fuel trims.

Right i know this is old but cant find any pics on internet
Anybody got a pic of this mtc with the pipework reduced before the maf i just want to get an idea of what its supposed to look like with the pipework sorted
Thanks

Mike what are you monitoring in the command app to monitor your values?
I'm using the torque app but don't know what to monitor.
