Facelift Gutted to say the least, advice please..

Hi all,

For those of you who have been following this thread and/or commented, you will know that last Saturday my girlfriend was involved in a car park incident which resulted in my 5 door FL A3 S Line sustaining a fair amount of damage to the rear offside door and its adjacent panel.

After deciding against claiming on my insurance, I took my car to a private body repair shop in Liverpool, which happened to be used by Liverpool Audi and Liverpool Jaguar. (I can supply details via DM). I was quoted a cash price of £880 + parts if needed. I dropped my car off the following day Tuesday 25th - Friday 28th.

Anyway, I collected my car about an hour ago and I am made up with the results and the repair. The guy has done very well and it is near on impossible to tell. Anyone who sees the vehicle for the first time would never know. He told me he spent 12 hours on the repair, not including the re-spray and final prep work! All in all, the total cost was £1055 - as I needed a new bottom sill which he couldn’t re-apply as the bonding agent had spoilt on removal. Overall, its been six days from misery to joy, and I am a happy chap again (albeit with a slight lighter wallet haha)

Looks a good job mate glad you got it all sorted ;)

Can you PM me the blokes details please? I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but a mate of mine had his A6 reversed into whilst in a car park and then they drove off!

From the photos, that looks like a really good repair, and you would never know anything had happened. Quick turnaround as well. :) I'm guessing from the angle of the photos, you've obviously checked it out closely looking close down the side of the car!! Have you checked the wee keyless sensor works on that door handle.. I'm sure you have! ;) Nice one mate.

Cheers mate! The repair is very good, gotta give credit when it's due. It's hard to take photos that do justice to what I'm able to see with the eye. Yeah, fully eyed down the length of the car and tested handle all good and working as should..

Thanks mate.. yeah, I said to Gordo before, the pictures don't really do it justice of what I was trying to show.

From what it was to how it is now, I'm amazed. Literally there is no sign of any damage at all. If there was I would just be honest with myself and admit it. All round top job..

You should post up the bodyshop details.
Not only have they done a great job, but done it in record time.
And it sounds like the service was spot on too.

They deserve some good publicity here.

Really pleased for you, that turned out really well and much less than I thought.
It's funny when you go through the insurance how the price doubles. :whip:

Yeah, I did think of doing so - just wasn't sure of any rules against this @Sandra?

Honestly couldn't fault them. The price was what it was due to cash payment, coming in private and therefore cutting out the middleman. Through insurance the guy said double it easy..

Car looks fantastic. You would never know anything had been repaired or repainted. You can create a post in the garage reviews section.

Pleased you got it all sorted and looks great and super price. Seems you got a quiet period at the body shop as well for them to turn it round so quick.

Cheers mate! Actually the opposite haha, the shop was chocker! But because I went in private with cash, they accommodated me first and altered the schedule... the majority in there were either used Audi cars that has been sold and in for paintwork / bumper touch up or insurance claims. The customers for these either had a car to use or would have a courtesy car, I think that's why I dropped on.. cash is king as the saying goes :p

Cheers @Rob2k68! Made up with it. Spent 4 hours today cleaning the interior and exterior as it was pretty filthy when returned, but nothing could be done about that really.

Interesting post this, but luckily your wife is ok, the car can be repaired, reason for replying is my wife pranged our previous motor Golf R mk7 about a year ago. She clipped a very low wall turning into a driveway, damaged the wall and damaged the n/s door on the R, door was completely wrecked even punctured the outer skin, slightly damaged rear panel and loads of damage to rear 19'' alloy & tyre.
No other driver involved at all.
Our insurance company Admiral were forcing us to go to a local Bodyshop, I checked the place out and refused to put the R to them.
Insisted on going with local VW / Audi bodyshop on the strength the repair would be perfect, they eventually agreed but we lost use of courtesy car for duration of repair.
The R got repaired by the 'experts' at VW / Audi bodyshop and it was a disaster, colour match was terrible, paint job was terrible, they said the rear alloy & tyre had been replaced but all they did was a quick refurb and did not replace the tyre which also impacted against the wall.
Part of the underside of the car had loads of white overspray, the interior was covered in dust from the rubbing down, what a mess and this is from the experts.

We eventually got the complete repair done a 2nd time but it was just hassle, I complained to VW HQ and to bodyshop manager but he was just as bad, crap attitude as well.
So beware that just because your car goes to an Audi bodyshop does not guarantee a good job.
I believe now that recommendations are the best way to get a good job done on you car, hopefully your motor will turn out good as new in the end.

That looks like an excellent job mate. I'm pleased you managed to get it done so quickly.

I've had the horrible experience of having bad accidents like that happen to my cars in the past, and the feeling is the worst until its fixed if you're a proper petrolhead like us.

Bet you're happy now.

100% Agree with your anecdote. In my experience too, the so called "experts" at Audi approved bodyshops do not give a stuff about your motor, as its just a factory churn process. In -> out, in -> out, in -> out.

Local places have a vested interest in keeping your car immaculate and ensuring that what comes out on the other side is an impeccable job as it's their reputation on the line at the end of the day. The place I have taken my cars to in the past, all rely on WOM (word of mouth) work to their vehicles. They do not own websites, do not employ marketing agencies, or have any kind of sales patter. It is ALL down to the result at the end for their customers, and that is why they continue to trade and rely on repeat business through WOM.

This, sadly, is the way it is in the UK for body repairs.

All is well that ends well.

I'm lucky to know a guy who does this sort of stuff to an unbelievably high standard and gets most of his business through word of mouth. Like the guy 4k uses you won't find him online or in fancy premises.
