For some reason I was under the impression that the b7s stopped at 57 plates, with the b8s taking over from 57, 08, 58 onwards etc. And it left me with a serious situation that almost caused me to make a drastic, life-threatening decision, you see I currently have a beautiful phantom black b7 avant on a 57 plate and I'm ******** as I can't put my 08 cherished number plate on it. I came close to selling the car with the intention of buying a newer model (I'm not too fond of the b8 headlights, however I do like the b8.5 lights a lot more), until the heavens recently opened up and shone light on a little gem in the form of an 08 registered 2.0 TDI b7 avant. Alright it's gonna take some getting used to, coming from a 2.0 TFSi 220bhp to a 160bhp diesel, mine also has the glovebox cooler, parking sensors, and I recently fitted the folding mirrors but at least this new one will be able to don my plate! Plus with a few mods and a map I'm sure I'll be able to squeeze a fair bit of power out of her. The other thing is she's green! For the sake of my number plate, I can live with that and possibly even wrap it at a later date.
I just assumed there was no such thing as a B7 on an 08 plate, and I know we should never assume (because to assume is to make an *** of U & ME), but I've never seen one before!

B7 cab models also came on 09 plates branded as Special Edition models just like the majority of late avants.

Mines on an 08 plate too

OP, I'll assume you're a bit under the weather. Changing your car just so you can stick a private plate on it!!!

Not at all pal, it's just really important to me that I have my plate on my car rather than just paying retention fees while it sits at home, plus I've only had the car 4-5 months so it's quite easy to cut my ties with it sooner rather than later... I think you may have missed the overall point though, my concern was that I would have to put an end to owning (the greatest model of all A4s) a B7, but fortunately I don't have to, I just have to settle for a slightly inferior variant.

Wait for another petrol to come up if I were you. As a diesel owner I can honestly say I think you'll regret it if you go to diesel. They're awful diesel engines no matter what anyone tries to tell you, rough lumpy and noisy unlike modern day deisels. Only reason I'm still in mine is it has to pay me back as I've invested thousands in mine and I doubt I'll find another with as much new parts attached for the same price

There will be quite a few B7's on 08 plates, they will all be late registered ones

They are the ones which were not sold before 08 plates started and were just sat on the dealer forecourts waiting to be bought

Seen this with S1 Escort RS Turbo's which were only made on B and C plates before the S2 came out on a D plate

Also some people buy cars, tuck them away and don't register them until years later

See! Just another reason why I didn't wanna have to leave the b7 model, everyone is so helpful and friendly. I reckon if I posted something like this to a b8 or other forum I'd get no helpful responses just sly jabs from a bunch of nob heads!
Thanks guys, and thanks Jasesapphy that red one looks clean and tidy too
