Hi all, new to the forum so please be gentle

I have just purchased an 03 reg S3 8l as a project for myself and my son, we are looking to start with a :

Revo stage 1 remap
Miltek resonated CAT back exhaust

As time goes on we will be upgrading the suspension, intake, wheels, and future engine mods ideally trying to get her up to 300bhp.

We would really appreciate any input from you guys on all these areas including the remap and exhaust in case there are better options out there !

We both love a nice deep gurbly exhaust note, what's the best way to achieve this, thanks all.

Hi and welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your s3 project. Has it already been remapped?
I am no expert but I think you are only 3 or 4 updates away from a stage 2 (maybe 1.5) - hardware wise. Eg Intake, Exhaust, brakes.
You must have had one of the last registered s3's at 2003

Hi Stuart and thank you, yeah it's a tricky one for parts as she is a facelift model and I keep getting sent parts for the pre facelift, but hey ho.

So far just the intake is upgraded, she has gone in over the weekend for new suspension and bushes and a few underside rusty replacements but engine mods will have to wait until the new year probably.

Was looking at a stage 1 Revo remap but if there is a preferred or better remap then I am open to suggestions.

This is really a father and son project, he has me running around all over the place to car meets and shows so I thought it would be a good thing for us both to do.

We were looking at a nice round number of 300bhp max, would you know if this is quite easy and inexpensive to achieve or would we be looking at a lot of hardware upgrades ?

300hp is a rare achievement on the standard turbo... it would take all the bolt on mods available (rods, FMIC, exhaust manifold, injectors, induction kit, exhaust and arguably water/methanol) and for the engine to be in perfect condition...

Engine condition has a massive influence over final power and something that is not easy to predict....

Most end up in the 280hp region, better ones get to 290 ish and one or two peak at 300 ish... the 300 hp on the std turbo is a very short peak at around 5000-5500 rpm after which it falls away...

As for a remap... custom map all the way..

Wowsers thanks for your advice tuffty, wasn't expecting that, and thanks for the remap link, will have a butchers this ago.

As far as getting as much power from her as possible without spending fortunes what's the best route in your opinion ?

FMIC, 3" downpipe, Badger5 induction and a custom map will give you best bang for buck... figures will be whatever she makes on the day but without rods torque should be conservative especially on spool...

Beyond that its rods and a hybrid... (plus all the other bits surrounding it)

Achilles heal of the 1.8t is rods and exhaust valves...

Much appreciated Tuffty, this is really helpful, she is in getting new suspension this weekend and dealing with some underbelly rust so will look into your suggestions and keep my post updated.

I've gone for the Bilstein & Eibach pro 12 set up plus power flex bushes, didn't want her too low, any suggestions on wheels for looks, I like BBS LMs ?

That's a shame cos I quite liked these

Lol, sorry I couldn't resist, I don't think they will catch on though....

On another note, I need to replace my front calipers and am looking for a sensible but not expensive replacement, I read that keeping the originals on and increasing the disks to 312mm is a good enough way to go !

Can anyone shed some light onto my dark dilemma please

Std S3 discs are already 312mm

Oh, I should have gone to spec savers, apologies, you can probably tell I am a bit wet around the ears mate.......

What's your opinion Tuffty, replace with the originals or upgrade ?

Basically I had major rust issues underneath that had caused untold problems and new parts and now it's the calipers !

Have read a lot about the Porsche 996 turbo calipers but these are still a lot of money and hard to find in a descent condition used !
