Hi,

I am looking to be getting an Audi A5 3.0 TDI for next year after looking into it. It looks like one of the best value motors I could upgrade to.

A ~50mpg 245bhp, 4 wheel drive diesel monster - It ticks all the boxes. I CANNOT wait to get one.

I've been looking at different exhausts which people have on YouTube - It doesn't even sound like a diesel either!!

The issue is I want to keep it legal. I don't want to do any DPF removal (Unless the majority of you have done & can assure it's somewhat safe?)

Does anyone here have an A5 3.0 TDI WITH a CatBack Exhaust only? (Which I think is simply just a replacement of the back boxes, DPF and stuff is still in, un-touched?)

modifying the exhaust system on it's own to remove the rear silencers doesn't make a great amount of difference to the noise. It does liberate a bit more of the V6 rumble / growl but to get any great amount of increase you have to remove the DPF. It acts as a very effective silencer, so with it in you will never get it to be loud.
Currently as long as the DPF case is present the car will pass as long as it passes the smoke test. This is not an issue as long as your tuner doesn't subscribe to the "no smoke no poke" school of thought. There is no saying if the law will change in the future and they will alter the test though.

Ah right I understood that slightly, most videos on YouTube are with a full exhaust and with the DPF removed etc etc which makes sense. Right okay about the DPF - I heard that it had to be taken off and welded open and removed all the things inside - is this correct? Is this safe and somewhat easy for them to do?

That sounds nice, but do you have any videos of where it's just a simple Cat Back system with no DPF delete, stock car? That is sort of what I am looking for. I've heard the Miltek + Supersprint exhaust systems on the A5 3.0 TDI and they are sweet as. But that's with an DPF delete and other mods done to it!

I've got a jetex on mine with the DPF in place ( but not for long). I'll do you a video in the morning. It isn't really that much louder, but it still sounds good over 2000 rpm

Same as above I have got a custom 3" exhaust with no back boxes and 4" tailpipes and its not loud at all. I'm wanting to remove the DPF for more sound

Very interested in hearing this when ever you have time to post it! I've been looking and for the miltek it's around £850 and the Jetex I've seen for around £450 - so I'd much prefer one at that saving tbh!

Is yours completely stock / standard bhp also? Looking forward to hearing it!

With DPF removal - does a garage need to physically remove/cut out the DPF? Or can they simply just plug it in and tell the onboard computer to not use the DPF? Unsure how it works but MOT/Insurance wise it sounds a bit risky!

I did a quick video this morning, but the sound is rubbish on my phone. I'll do a proper one tomorrow.
That's the reason I went for the jetex over the miltek. I couldn't justify the extra £400.
Mine isn't completely stock, it's had a remap and an air filter, but that shouldn't make a great deal of difference to the sound.
With the DPF. It needs to be cut open and gutted and then programmed out of the ecu. I've bought a scap DPF off eBay and had that gutted, so I can go back to stock if I need to. I just need to get round to fitting it. That way it still looks standard. The MOT is just a visual inspection at this moment in time, so as long as it looks like it's there, it's a pass.
