Graph demonstrates the lag when pulling away from rest without launch control (S3 S tronic Sportback).

Measured on Racelogic Performance box. 0-60 was 5.41s, but I do have all the heavy options on the car.
You can just about spot the gearchanges

Thats why on a manual acceleration from 10-15mph on a rolling start is so blisteringly quick...mmmmm

Was this in Sport mode?
It was in individual with engine set to dynamic, but as the car had been turned off and on again, the 1100(?)rpm tickover had reverted to sub 1k revs, so I suppose the same as comfort.

With brakes depressed, the idle rpm will be below 1k but I find that it rises to just over 1k if I ease up on the brake so presume can get a slight better response from the turbo

I really want to do this with my S5. Hopefully it'll provide some justification for my love of superchargers....

How did you start? If I want to get a quick getaway I sit with my left foot on the brake and my right foot on the accelerator. I don't experience as much lag when doing so

Same. Left foot lightly on brake, release & mash accelerator. Will try it again in sport mode with tickover revs above 1000, sure it will help.

Doesn't sound like that would be kind for the cars gearbox or brakes....!?

But, are you revving with the accelerator before releaing the brake?

Is this not how launch control works?

The two pedals are not being pressed at the same time.

No, not touching the accelerator until brake has been released.

Oh OK. Yea I do the same, but have hill hold assist so that holds the brakes for me, then just mash the accelerator.

I think the other guy was suggesting he builds the revs slightly to help with the turbo lag. That sounds like it could be bad for the car, but happy to be proven wrong.

To an extent yea, but LC also requires you to turn off traction control, start/stop, hill hold and put the gearbox in 'S'. Then you have to really push the brake hard and mash the accelerator until the revs hold. It's not something I've been able to master on a daily basis....!

I don't see why it would do much damage. It's the equivalent of sitting in a manual in first with the revs on just before the biting point. Obviously don't sit there for minutes in this mode but you get a quick launch without going through the whole launch control rigmarole.

Not sure it is, since the clutch is engaged, unlike a manual where you build the revs with the clutch not engaged.

In essence the car is trying to move but you are only stopping it with the brakes. While it may not be the worst thing, I can't imagine it's 'good' for either your brakes or gearbox...

I know when I haven't pressed the brake hard enough trying to do a LC it makes a hell of a noise...!
