Was at Audi main dealer collecting my car from a gearbox oil service and then mentioned my cambelt needs doing soon.

They quoted me £599 VAT included and MOT's for life free (about 3 for me as it will be gone in 2/3 years).

Does this sound right, only asking question as my Focus ST was done for £180 all in.

Check a local audi specialist or garage for prices...

Just paid £83 for my 2.0 A4 timing belt kit, and £29 for a water pump (plus vat). So your looking at around £150 for parts by time factor in some coolant. The rest is labour. Just done mine today and was a nice simple job. But im handy with spanners and access to the pins to lock it up so makes it easier.

Thanks for that, is it quite labour intensive as my ST was really easy to access and fit according to the garage I took it too.

Not too bad. Now I have a rough idea of how things come apart etc its a lot better job.

A competant mechanic whos done them before would be looking 3-3.5 hours worth of labour max for the job. Ive got a 1.8T mk4 golf and would rather do another belt on my A4 than the golf.

Thanks for that, i would rather have a rough idea than no clue at all. When the guy told me £599 i was abit taken back.

Yeah, its very expensive as you can see by the prices I paid for the parts (attached below). Worked out it was £443 for the LABOUR to change the cambelt and waterpump. Amazing how they can justify a £144 hike in price for a £29 part.

Best idea is to haggle with them if you want main dealer to do it. Tell them you know what the parts cost and believe the labour price is excessive.

Make sure it includes the waterpump.

Audi vw centre chippenham done ours for around £400.
