Whilst the handbrake will happily disengage, I find that when I park and stop the engine, it does not in the Audi? Anyone else find that?

In the Golf the handbrake automatically came on as I unclipped my belt.

It does with s tronic. It automatically comes on (I think) when you press the engine off switch, but I'll check

Yep have S-Tronic - will test out some more too, reluctant when on driveway, but often find it just sits on gearbox park

It should also come on if you come to a halt and either remove your seatbelt or open the drivers door..

Definitely works when driver's door is opened, as I discovered in the supermarket car park during the week. Was just checking that I was within the marked bay as we inched forward and the handbrake slammed on. Fortunately I knew what was happening as I'd read about it on here on another thread.

Hmm clearly not working then - I wonder if it's something that changes because of having hill hold assist?

Make sure you are wearing the seatbelt first, also, if you look at page 105 of the manual 'P' is engaged automatically if you switch off the engine with stronic if it's in 'd','e','s' or 'r'. However if it's in 'N' then parking is engaged after 30 mins At least that's how I read it.

Mine does it about three quarters of the time. Can't figure out why not all the time.

OK that's strange, so if you use P on the S-Tronic gearbox, then the (P) - parking brake will NOT engage. But if you go straight from being in gear (i.e D/S or R) and less the engine start / stop button it DOES engage the parking brake.

Yep. When I pull up and press the start/stop button, the parking brake always goes on. Most of the time the handbrake goes on but not all of the time. Very weird.

Now I'm confused. We went out this afternoon and when we pulled up on the drive afterwards I pressed Park, then switched the engine off. The parking brake didn't come on automatically, but I'm sure I has in those circumstances before. Is that what others are saying?

Yep I usually do exactly what you say (as that was the procedure in the Golf) and never activated. But if I was in anything other than Park, it engaged. Strange - I wonder if there is any coding which can change that behaviour? Might ask the dealer.

Also Hill hold i'm finding a little different strange to the Golf. It won't activate if I lightly press on the brake pedal. I have to press down further for it to activate, but then the stop-start kicks in too! :( The Golf I could press lightly, activate Hill Hold, but the Stop/Start would only kick if I pressed down further - which I tuned myself into doing when I was at traffic lights vs. junctions.

Tried a new sequence this afternoon. Pulled up on the drive and just pressed engine stop. Bingo! Gearshift went to Park and parking brake came on simultaneously.

Yep - I have found that happens *most* of the time but not always!

Well, I'll adopt it as my new shutdown procedure from now onwards and see how we go. Still finding out about the car!

I'll try that at work as well and see if it works. I don't normally turn the car off at work. I'll do P and Auto Brake manually. Taking the seat belt off then puts the car in 'off' mode. Then i'll get out and lock it and it will switch everything off.

On the other hand tho. When I pull on my drive and press 'P' the Electric handbrake will come on automatically (every time), but then my drive is very steep!

I did this after my first drive - which I then learned that it did not save my of the customisation I had made in the MMI settings! So had to do them all again!
