Many cars (not just Audi's) have cameras located in the top of the windscreen (behind rear view mirror) for things such as lane assist, and then you have the parking cameras.

There must be a way to tap into the video feed and send to recording device?

I have 5 cameras on my car and no manufacturer I know of offer dashcam recording as an option despite the cameras being very suitable for this. I'd like to do this conversion without affecting other functionality. Top of windscreen, front of car, rear of car and one under each wing mirror.

What a cracking idea. Especially when some models have two SD card slots.

You will not get the MMI system to record anything from the cameras, you may be able to tap into the camera feeds, but you would have to see how the camera's are powered they may be switched on via the parking module. You would also then need a module/device to record the information and at that point you may as well get a dedicated solution, blackvue etc.

I don't mind installing additional hardware to record and power etc, but what a waste having so many cameras you can't use.

I just never understood why manufacturers didn't use as opportunity to add another expensive option?

The car industry has always been a few years (decades) behind IT. I suspect in a couple of years time we will see them offer such an option

Much neater than installing an after-market solution

I've got front and rear factory fitted cameras so them not being able to record is annoying :(
