I've finished installing A6 bi-turbo intercooler fits on my (UK) 2007 Audi A5 3.0 TDI and thought i'd share how the process went and what you need for it.
The intercooler of the Audi A6 (4G C7) 3.0 TDI Bi-Turbo (Engine Code CGQB) is an uprated model from the stock intercooler that's found on the A5. The A6 at stock has 313 BHP, tunable to at least a good 360 if not higher bhp. The standard A5 intercooler would struggle above 300.
Fitted on A6 2011-2014 it was I believe also fitted on the A7 Sportback 2012-2014.
Part number of the intercooler is: 4G0 145 805 J, Core Dimensions: 690 x 175 x 75mm -> 9,06l
The good news is that this fits the A5 with very little modification necessary. I'm not going to list how to take the bumper off or the standard intercooler, these steps can be found on ElsaWin.
As a start I took the standard intercooler off, which was heavily smashed up after doing about 100K, to protect the intercooler I fitted some DIY mesh, spraypainted black. The screws that hold the grille in quite nicely double as securing screws.
As you can see, it should also prevent half the autumn leaves ending up behind the intercooler. All vacuumed and cleaned up.
And ultimately fitted:
The new intercooler fits nicely onto the standard intercooler support, and even the screw/bolt holding it in is at the same place.
The only thing that needs a very small amount of trimming is the air ducts as seen here:
Which as you can see is not really a big deal.
Here's where it gets interesting. The standard hoses do NOT line up. Now you can either go custom, or like me find the part numbers of the A6 hoses, and see if they fit the A5 as well.
Stock A5 hoses:
Try as you might, these will absolutely not go on.
So you'll need the A6 bi-turbo hoses which are:
Driver side hose: 4G0145738AB
Passenger side hose: 4G0145709AB
Both the intercooler and hoses can be found on ebay, just keep an eye out on them.
One thing to not is that the passenger side one lines up perfectly, but the driver side one is ever so slightly trickier. Still, not much of a problem, best best to secure the upper hoseclamp first, then the intercooler side.
Driver side:
Passenger side:
As you can see a much better fit then the stock hoses.
And the finished, OEM stealth install:
Car has already been Bluefin mapped and seems to work very well with this intercooler. Hopefully sometime next year hybrid turbo.
Hope this helps those who were wondering the same thing about these intercoolers.
