About 6 months ago I bought a used a3 sportback at 25k miles, now it has about 45k miles. I've noticed a lot of rattles lately and honestly I believe they've always been there but... "honeymoon period" made me not notice them. I tracked them down to these areas:
-Passenger side jet-style airvent(rattle)
-Upper side of driver's door card(vibrating noise)
-Drivers seat(squeak)
-Somthing behind the seatbelt adjuster(rattle)

Besides that, some mechanical noises:
On a slow turn in to any side, a humming noise(pump whine?) and a rattle(like a socket wrench but slower) that speeds up with wheel speed... I'm thinking a wheel bearing but there isn't any play in the wheels so I'm not sure.

I live in Belgium and travel at least 20 miles of terrible road per day, busy road, hasn't been repaired since my father was a young man :-( So I'm not surprised but it feels bad anyhow.

If anyone has noticed any one of these, please share your experiences/solutions.

There was another thread recently about the seatbelt adjuster rattle. if you search recent posts its there somewhere. I think someone recommended adjusting the seatbelt adjuster up or down. I do have a drivers seat squeak too but it was because i had put the seat fully down and it was rubbing on something. I put it up a little and its gone now. I live in Portugal and the roads here are shocking too. I feel like its tearing my car apart sometimes! worst noise i have is from the MMI system which goes away if i put it up and down again! weird! i think most squeeks in my car are due to ocd and just worry that the roads are killing it! Mine also felt much newer and better built when i got her a few months ago but i guess its that new car "honeymoon" period!

Okay I'll have a look at it. Oh Portugal, do they still have those traffic lights that turn red when you're approaching too fast?

Jet style air vent rattle

The air vents can be easily removed by simply using a plastic tool to gently wedge in around the edge whilst pulling on the whole vent. ( some even do it using just their finger nails) With the vent out you can either swap with another from a different place or drive with it removed to eliminate where the rattle is coming from.

Sometimes rattles can be deceiving, recently I thought my drivers door was rattling and it turned out to be a small plastic water bottle lid which was left in the rear door pocket. Certain revs made it vibrate... drove me nuts until I found it!!

Good luck

I'd echo that completely. On the rare occasion I've heard rattles in the past (not this car) it's turned out to be something totally innocuous that I'd completely forgotten was even in the car!

................jeez, it's been a helluva week for rattles on here though :scared2:

Apart from the passenger side airvent rattle, I have all of those on my S3. Dealership have stripped door cards off, placed sealant round windows/door seals, and nothing has changed. What's worse is I have an MMI rattle, which is the most irritating. Luckily I have B&O so I normally throw the volume up to 35 and don't hear it any longer. But it's poor show for a 40K car.

It'll go back in shortly to be addressed AGAIN. According to the engineer that looked at it last time, the door card rattles will occur due to the way that the door cards are fitted onto the door. Not sure if those particular ones can be addressed, but with the MMI, they said they will replace the whole unit if it happens to me again. Unfortunately I think it's a fairly intrusive procedure.

Totally agree with Jungle 650. Worst for me is the water bottle in the door bin. rattles no matter what angle.

4K. your MMI rattle, is it where the screen is or other internal part? with mine if i hold it on the top of the screen it goes away! Almost like im taking away the pressure of the weight of the MMI screen. obviously this isnt quite practical when driving! sometimes its there, sometimes not, if i lower & put the screen up again it goes away! seems a strange rattle to have!

Yea, exactly the same as yours mate. At the top or at the bottom. Either way if I hold it, it goes away. I've tried putting it down and back up, but it's still there. The annoying thing is, it's intermittent and of course when I took it to Audi and took it out on a drive with them, it wouldn't replicate. Typical.
