Busy this week detailing my Vegas Yellow S1 Sportback with Quattro packs. All done by hand and takes about three days start to finish. To start, the car is hosed then shampoo washed with an Autoglym mitten and a false bottom bucket to allow grit etc to harmlessly sink to the bottom. Before now, I would have removed the wheels to wash and polish the barrels but I've just taken delivery of an excellent Microfiber Madness Incredibrush, a flexible brush which cleans the barrels, spoke backs, calipers etc. I'll now remove the wheels just once per year to polish the barrels.
My first wheel brush - a Chemical Guys bristle brush - was pure junk, handle snapped off after being used twice. Anyway, the microfibres brush retains all the soapy water and is kinder to the wheels - a bristle brush is virtually dry by the time you insert it into the wheels.
Because the front caliper is so tight to the back of the wheel, I'll use a small horsehair hand brush and spray on Dodo Juice to deep clean all the cavities around the calipers.
For bodywork, I use Poorboys products - Professional Polish as a paint cleaner / moisturiser then Natty's Blue Wax to finish off. If I run out of Poorboys, I'll use three stage Meguairs products - Paint Cleaner, Polish and Carnuba Wax. I find that both these products will bead water for at least six months in our our very hostile Hebridean environment. No tar remover used - any tar is tracked down with a bright LED light and removed by polishing. I'm fortunate in that my paintwork is free from swirls and fine scratches. I'm not a fan of machine polishing and, luckily, it's not required on my new S1. And when the car goes to the dealer, I have an interior mirror sign which says 'Please do not wash this vehicle' (had to spend £250 on paint correction for my previous A4 after the dealer washed it with stones in the sponge). Won't happen again!
