hi all I've nearly payed my A3 off and as much as I love the car I think it's great I want an A6 :) I've always driven manual cars with a gear stick but I fancy a change and paddle shift is one of the things I want to try and the ability to slip it in to auto on long journeys, the A6 I'm looking at are the 3.0l v6 tdi c6 avant sline quattro, but which type is better the tiptronic or the multitronic? such as pros, cons, smoothness common faults etc, I did read something about this on here but it didn't really answer my question and instead of bringing that thread back up as it was from 2008 I thought I'd make my own, thanks for any advice and or info.

Tiptronic is a beast, there reliable. multitronics are crap and break a lot and cost a lot.

I asked multiple garage engineers I knew from college and they all told me they haven't seen a damaged or faulty Tiptronic. helped me to choose but Quattro was obvious anyway.

hope this helps!

Tiptronic and you will get quattro as well then. Don't go for a multichronic they are not worth the hassle.

Quattro

Please forgive my ignorance but where does S-Tronic fit in here?

OP is looking a the C6 model which was only manual, tiptronic or multitronic, however as he is looking at the 3.0TDI that is manual or tiptronic only so does not need to worry about multitronic issues.

Yeah but op might be walking down the street and see a nice 2ltr and think oooh ill have that and op could end up miserable and depressed because he bought a multitronic

The s tronic question was purely for selfish reasons having just bought a new car with s tronic. Didn't intend to hijack the post so I'll leave it there and have another look around the forum. :)

Also got s-tronic on the new car, I know early s-tronic boxes did have issues, but later boxes appear to be better, but time will tell.....

tiptronic, mine was smooth and even more so after remap

Bit of thread revival, but are you talking gearbox remap? If so, where did you have it done? Im struggling to find somewhere!

As the the original topic, bit late now, but Tiptronic all the way!!!!!

just ecu remap, i don't think the tiptronic can be remapped?

Ah ok.

It can be mapped, there just isn't many people doing it lol
What would the point in mapping it be?
does it make a big difference. sorry I have never heard of a Tiptronic gearbox map/

I'm a manual guy anyway.

i fail to see the point either, the tiptronic is fixed ratio? and is good for 150mph

It sharpens up the up and down shifting, plus improves the tip parameters.

JHM have been doing it for a while now, but only for b7 S4 so thats probably why you havent heard of it.

There was a company or two doing it in this country, but they dont seem to be around anymore :(
