Hi all as the thread title says I ve noticed that during my trip around Europe in the summer my car got full of stone chips different sizes and shapes on the bonnet front my side mirror cover and the bumper . For a few months I was thinking on to get the touch up paint kit from Halfords it s Quartz grey like my car and looks really rather good once applied. The only problem is that on the box says that first you need to put some primer (provided in the kit) a few layers (I did two) and after 24 h or so of drying you shoud apply the paint in a few coats and again after24 h the protective lacquer. Started on Sunday with the primer and discovered that I have like 15-20 stone chips on the car most of 'em small but a few rather large.. done the primer filled nice but when to add the paint the application pen drops paint and my mistake was to think that during drying process will get nice and resonable flat..not the case and majority of them are bumpy now after drying and for two days I was like blocked on solution... looks even worse than before..visible and bumpy...I felt like an idiot messing with the car like experimenting..but If you just look at it won t get off..and I doesn t worth painting the whole bonnet and bumper for stone chips. After thinking night and day I was coming with a few solutions: wipe out everything so going back to square one... and next one is using some 2500 grid sandpaper water sanding and then some good quality polish and on top some nice Meguiars gold wax.. but I m really confused.. how should I do it ? Just on the spots? Or on big area? If I start now to put polish on my car do I need to do it constantly as the paint under wax will get faded ? Any help is appreciated as niw I m stuck and sick...can t sleep, eat Till I solve this problem. Adi

I used a touch up kit on a few places on the bonnet on my car, i wet sanded the raised bits down after giving it a few days to cure then polished out the marks from sanding

Thanks man but now... if I wet sand over the bumps the area in there will fade and from that point polish and wax for ever??? Thx . Adi

Should be able to sand it without any noticeable damage to the surrounding paint, just use plenty of soapy water and take it easy and slowly

You could try sticking a peice of wet and dry on the end of a pencil, trimming it to shape of the pencil. Then just gently rotate in your fingers. It'll only get the high spot then.

Hi Mark I have seen the guy from Ammo NYC doing the same thing... but my fear is that when the wax will start fade after a few months and from under I ll get dots and spots it s following me as a nightmare does

If you use a decent cutting polish to remove the sanding marks and the colour match is good then it shouldn't be noticeable, even if the colour match isn't spot on it will still look better than a chip :) the repairs i done properly are not noticeable at all and i should imagine sprint blue is a hard colour to match (used a ebay repair kit)

Looks like it, but always good to have another option for future damage.

Just apply your paint. Wait a day for it to dry. Then very gently, using 2000 grit wet and dry paper flat the paint down. When you are happy with that, wet and dry again, but with 3000 grit paper. Wipe clean. Then using a damp cloth, apply some t-cut, working in a circular motion. Keep applying T-cut until you have got rid of the haze in your paint.
When completely happy, Polish with wax to shine.

I had it for my old b8 A4, and now for the A5, great stuff IMO, and an exact match to Audi paint.

Hi Guys today after work I ve tried to do something about those paint spots on my car...the result is awful as I think I ve done a big mistake by sanding a bit too much in my paint and now the car is looking quite bad ... process: 2000 and 2500 grid sandpaper some nice warm soapy water and some pencils where I put some sandpaper having some glue beforehand on the end of pencil. First 2000 sandpaper and then 2500 with plenty of soapy water and just a bit or pressure. When I ve seen it drying I ve thought I ll have a heart attack no joke.. gave the car a good clean then I ve used the Audi polish and Meguiars gold carnuba wax. Now the result is not 100%bad but definitely worst that I have expected. As mistakes probably I ve sanded for too long or not polishing enough? Did it by hand but wasn t sure for how long should it polish it..at the moment front bumper plus front of bonnet looking daft as having some of em like a 50p coin... I started by using pencil but after (wasn t working very well)I ve done it by cuting small pieces of sand paper like the size of my thumb and that s why they came so big. Probably removed the layers of laquer from factory? Ps: who knows a good car painter? Adi

Paint repairs are pretty unforgiving. Maybe all is not lost, before you go to a paint shop. A rotory mop and Menzerna 203S can work miracles in the right hands. Assuming you haven't removed the lacquer completely, then it's redeemable.

Called a friend tonight and I had the car in his awesome garage and we started by using claybar and after half an hour some t cut as clay bar wasn t enough but now the car looks like before and it s a very good result. Tomorrow morning I ll do some polish over and wax again. Adi

Glad you've sorted it Adi. Nothing worse than thinking you've f**ked it.
