I went to Audi international at Castle Coombe on Saturday, I was surprised not to see many 8l Audi's there, I think I only saw about five all day, only one on the ASN stand, although I've never seen so many RS3's in one place, there must have been thirty of them.

How did that compare to similar age TT/Golf/Leon/Octavia ?

Millions of TT's... no other vags apart from ones specifically there for the track time...

I parked up with Bill with my ASN plates on but did think about moving the car to flesh out the stand a little

Spoke to a few people Saturday that suggested there are a lot of S3's getting broken and sold as parts on Facebook groups... maybe thats where they are all going...

Give a bit more time and rarity the 8L S3 will be a good investment , the first of it's kind and much more regarded and rarer than it's sister Mk4 Golf GTI .

There was a blue one i saw out on track giving a R8 a good run for it's money, the R8 could just about catch it on the straights but couldn't keep up through the corners :p

There are loads of them up for breaking though, as gaz has said, if you find a reasonably good condition one with a reasonable mileage on it then it would be a brilliant investment.

The RS3 stand was insane. I've heard there was a lot of good lease deals on them when they first came around though so should imagine that would explain the sheer numbers.

They are getting rarer just due to the age of the car and will hopefully start increasing in value too :)

Saying that I was on Auottrader last week and was surprised at how much they are actually going for....there was one up for about £8k!!! with about 60k on the clock.

@Stuart B That one does look good, at that price though its going to be up for sale for a very long time, i dont think they are at that level of status yet to warrant those price tags.

Good Spec on that car chrome mirrors, heated seat, sunroof, rear parking sensors, auto dip rear view mirror

Apparently this one is worth meeeelions!!!... :D

the 8L spread was fairly thin at ADI wasn't it!

the track action seemed fairly tame too compared to my memory of previous years.

Aside from Bill in the Badgerwagen, the TSR Leon, and Ollie Jackson in the BTCC car, nothing else appeared to be in a hurry at all!

Oh, apart from a little 106 and a clio 182 who clearly couldn't care less about Audi-Driver and had their own personal grudge match to settle. THAT was entertaining :racer:

ill have my 8l at the next one, so that will be one more on the list, unfortunately it is in the garage been modded at the minute so out of action

why have you got a flashing yellow lamp on your roof, were you the pace car?

Its called being a crap photographer :)

...that and it was the only angle I could get on the car at the time without being directly in the sun ...

I could have cloned it out but couldn't be bothered... its just some 8L at the end of the day :D

I think @jojo owns most of the countries 8L S3's now... so he brought the A6 to ADI :)

Meeeeh! :D

There use to be a time that 8L S3 owners parked on the ASN clubstand, we had a whopping 70 odd cars turn up to represent us that year!
But it's all a bit watered down since with so many different forums/Facebook groups we have these days...

I will fly the 8L flag again out on track next year, with some luck, and hopefully some of you will join me! :racer:

I was having fun in my Cordoba. Including several seconds with all four wheels on the grass when I over ****** it on Camp! Foot flat to the floor and bounced my way back onto the black stuff eventually....

Damn Jase, where was you parked? I still owe you a drink my friend!

Just down from Tufty and Bill, behind the AMD / Audi stands. I did wander past the ASN stand a couple of times but there was no-one around.

I saw a yellow 8l giving an R8 driver a lesson, the R8 just couldn't get past no matter how hard he tried, bet that was satisfying.

46 RS3 this year ( I didnt go)

There used to be a massive following of the 8L S3, almost cult status. This very forum was build off them,
I cant remember the exact address , but it was something like sport3.net which evolved into ASN, and TSN followed when there was a split.

I had 2 x 8L S3 from 2002 to 2012, when I switched to a 2011 8P S3 BE.

I used to attend all the Castle Coombe VW/Audi Driver days, and a lot of TT forum run RR days back then, as there was a huge group of us, that pretty much always attended.

Which Paul are you? lol

You'll find that internet forums are all watered down now, because there's so many different groups about. Winding back to the days you are speaking of, this WAS the forum for info and tech for 8L S3's, to a certain point, it still is.... the answers are there, you just need to find them!

Also, people's life style has changed, and we require answers on the button, instead of waiting patiently like we did 10 years ago. So Facebook groups are the current thing! Ask questions at any time of the day or night, and in most cases, get a response within 5 minutes on your mobile device! Not to mention the freedom of being able to swear/be a ****, without the internet police having a poke! :busted cop:

I still think 8L's are the modern day equivalent of the mk1 Golf, it will never be the same legendary status of course, but it will be a classic in future.

That one lives down in Cornwall i believe, was chatting to a couple of the blue b5 s4 owners that conveyed up with him. I think the blue a3 8l was with them as well

he might be the guy i see occasionally around Helston if the S4 owners are the guys i'm thinking of. Was one of the Blue S4 owners called Reg?

The 8Ls did have a massive following and I remember going to shows a few years ago where they dominated the grounds when we all got together.

People have moved on and changed vehicles though, only a few of us about now.

As Jo mentioned as well, there are alot more avenues available to get information now, whereas this used to be the place to be.

I think most are here up north as I know of 6 S3 8l's within a 10 mile radius of me!

We can't afford the newer models up here you see haha.

My ex 8L S3 visited yesterday and my only reason for selling this car was to move on to an 8P RS3 (as posted in the 8P RS3 section under "So 5-years ago this week" otherwise it would still be mine for sure:

I miss the good old days. We had a great bunch of people who would get together from all walks of life.
But, people move on to other cars, or move on in life, or simply don't want to deal with shows anymore.

I personally don't bother with face book groups, although I can see why it's a more direct source of information, even if it is utter ********.

With regards the ridiculous number of RS3s, maybe we should have a separate banner 'pcp-sport.net'?

I don't bother with Facebook groups either.
Prefer the privacy / security of forums, where you can keep it separate to Facebook.

RS3OC has made their AUDI Driver stand the location for their RS3 Fest event, which has proven very popular hence the turn out.

Paul, your Rosso red S3 is still doing the rounds on FB, it's changed hands at least 4 times, with one chap buying it back and selling it again!

its back on this forum last week jojo, discovered due to the missing paint code.

someone scratched it :|

Hi Jojo , Yes, I've seen, I knew of 2 TSN owners after me, Then at some point JoeS3 here had it, someone owned it twice? and now user "Nasher" has recently popped up with it here on ASN.

Not sure where my black one went. I saw it up for sale a few years back on Yellow Porsche Calipers, ( I sold it with big reds) a recent search for its old plate drew a blank. So it's either on a private plate, or scrapped/been written off.
