So this is my fault
------
VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.2
Saturday, 15 October 2016, 13:35:35.
Control Module Part Number: 8E0 035 195 AB
Component and/or Version: symphony II PM6 0470
Software Coding: 00015
Work Shop Code: WSC 00402
VCID: 67A1389F1675
1 Fault Found:
01305 - Databus for Infotainment
49-00 - No Communications
------

And these are my symptoms

Stereo only works independently from ignition
No DIS of radio details
Front Speakers are intermittent

MW doesn't work <-- probably an aerial issue.

Managed to recode using VCDS so "Diagnose" works

I have looked on ROSS TECH and via Google to Audi Forums etc. - I cannot get the search working here for some reason today - keeps coming up with an error.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a wiring issue.

Have you pulled out the stereo to check the connections are ok?

Has the top section DIS always never worked for you? Maybe the antenna (the whole unit. Not just the bit that can unscrew) has been changed?

Check front speaker wiring too. Then check the amp connections in the boot.

Not much help but I had the same problem with MW mate and a new aerial fixed that...

When I put in my phatbox I tried to get it recoded using this link...

http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/symphony2.html

In my case nothing worked until I had the phatbox software correct and then the radio found it automatically.Looking at your code it matches a DIS function so I've been no use to you there  I'm sure I can switch my radio on/off without the key in the ignition but it turns off after removing the key from ignition,if that makes sense.

Thanks Ian and TCG for your replies

@Ian yeah everything worked fine when I had the Original Symphony 1 installed (apart from the single CD player) - So I got a Symphony 2 (multi CD player) - the cabling issue I tried to look at as the common fault is a broken wire connection to the CanBus - it appears slightly different to the Symphony 1 - I have replaced the sharkfin aerial and bought a spare single amplifier.

@tcg - I have previously used tkan page - as my unit came from an A4 I think the recode doesn't quite match for example I get the BOSE text for half a second if I use different flags. Thanks for the sat.pdf I think that is exactly what I am looking for.

Don't think the tkan page is that good mate but if you've changed from Sym 1 to Sym 2 hopefully that sat.pdf guide should cover everything you need from wiring to coding, should be able to trace it all, just a lot to read through :readit:

yeah I certainly didn't make the rewiring changes with my chubby fingers and coloured blindness I may struggle slightly - but I think that is the important bit

the instruments adaptions I will have a quick look at this morning.

Update: Bah Humbug - you need a registered version to access the Adaptions

To be fair....the amount we use VCDS it's probably a worthwhile upgrade. What is the licence cost these days?

only $99 should have done it before brexit :)

I feel that is going to be why you're not getting the top half of the DIS working. Was the one you replaced the shark fin with an OEM "base". As I think it's the base that has some electronics in it that I reckon let's the HU know what is going on too.

I changed from stock Base to shark fin. No more top half display for radio channel after that

hmmm maybe its not worth the bother - those diversity connectors have done my head in. when I got the car the DIS worked without the aerial even connected properly. the shark fin I fitted did needed modifying to connect to get FM but alas still no MW

I don't think the aerial has anything to do with the DIS,I'd hope that's just the headunit wiring mate. The Audi aerial has a built in amplifier in the base which is power fed through the aerial cable from the Sym 2 headunit for MW,with mine I got MW once I had replaced the aerial. My new aerial came with a wire attached which I think can also be used to power the amplifier.

Don't give up mate,I'm sure you just need to sort your headunit wiring for the DIS to work if it was working before.

reviving an old post, but did this problem got fixed?
got an 2001 s3 with symphony 2 aswell, doens't goes on/off automaticly, no front left speaker, and no dis information.
anybody knows how to wire it correctly?
