Blown turbo

are you sure its blown and not just gone into limp mode?

The tuning boxes make the car produce more boost. To produce more boost on a diesel the box puts in more fuel, in a diesel this elevates the exhast gas temp a LOT. The higher EGT can do one of two things.

1. Overheat the vane and turbine assembly usually leading to bearing damage and pretty much instant failure.

2. The high boost pressure can wipe out the trust bearing in the turbo causing failure.

I was an application engineer for garrett for 3 years and the ammount of turbos i saw damaged after people fitted tuning boxes was horrific.

Plus, you can tell very quickly what caused it if you examine the turbo, so no warranty.

Im sorry for your mate but many of these so called "specialists" havent a clue what they are doing, they just dump more fuel into the engine, causing the damage i outlined above and the result is very p1ssed of customers...

Its the old saying. You dont get something for nothing!

And yes, you can cause some serious problems with re-maps.

The problem i think is that most of the re-map guys have electronic engineering backgrounds, great for burning new maps on ECU EEPROMS but not very useful if they dont know what altering fuel timing/ air/fuel ratio does to all the mehanical parts....
