aim looking at buying a engine that's been rebuilt. Are arp rods an uprated rod or are they just oem spec

If they are anything like the ZRP rods I have seen before you would do well to get the small ends re-bushed as (assuming they are rifle drilled and if not why not!!) as there are holes in them

Personally I'd stick to IE rods

Arguably but need to make sure the rods are drilled... non drilled rods tend to get noisy small ends after a while

...no mention in that link that they are drilled either..

These are the 'better' ones of what they list
http://www.tsr-performance.com/webs...-rod-light-weight-version-with-rifle-drilled/

...but like I said... ZRP I have seen in the past have holes in the small end which would allow the high pressure oil feed from the rifle drilling to vent out through them rather than across the bearings and out the sides...

If the turbo has been oil starved what do you reckon would've happened to the engine? Oil doesn't live in the turbo...

Yeah Stuart that's the wayI plan on going as looking for a car but came across that engine which had just been rebuilt.
I would love to do it myself but there's two problems with that I have no space to do it and not a clue what I'm doing haha

I didn't replace my driveshafts any funnily enough I haven't wondered if they are undoing or were too tight etc. I couldn't spend my life wondering if the internals of my engine are wearing out too quickly etc a head gasket is my limit

You want a set of rods that had a complete bush in the upper of them. Rifle drilling is argued as best, but if the bush has a groove in it and a hole out the 'top' of the rod, then all your oil pressure is simply going to escape out the top of the rod and offer zero lubrication.

As mentioned, IE rods and damn good for the money (maybe a touch more expensive) but they are a ****** good brand to be buying and probably one of the best.

Mine arent rifle drilled, but typically I only ever use the car at high RPMs where the splash lube from the squirters keeps thing nice up at the top end of the rod. Many other OEM applications arent rifle drilled from the factory.
