Noisy fan!!!

hi all

Just noticed now, my B9 with 3,500 miles on the clock has developed a noisy fan.

I thought my neighbour was mowing the lawn it's so noisy!

It's like it when driving and when stopped at lights even with start/stop engaged.

Then takes 2/3 mins to turn off when the engines off.

Any ideas!?!?
 
Is it a tdi by any chance?

Edit - I was going to say that it might be a DPF regent but don't know if that's the case with the adblue system...

Yeah it's a TDI
 
It's the dpf regen, nothing to worry about
 
Stop going slow ,give it a good thrashing lol.

That will sort it.....

DPF Regen is apparently much more aggressive on newer cars. If you're not aware - it's part of the emissions cleansing on Diesels.

Basically a DPF is like a catalytic converter - sits after the exhaust manifold to collect soot. Then depending on the technology used, it is normally soaked in a chemical to lower the burning temperature, and the ECU increases the ignition temperature in the engine to burn the soot into harmless particles. Sometimes you can detect this by a slight 'warm smell' from the engine.
If you get home and the fans are running like crazy - you basically interrupted this process and the fans are there to help cool the engine quicker. It's not a big deal, it will just do it again on your next drive.

Haha I've been a bit of a ****** for mothering it lately. Nice relaxed economy runs to and from work - I think next week the drives in will be in dynamic mode! Cheers

I really didn't know what it was exactly so appreciate you taking the time to explain.

I'll keep an eye on it and continue enjoying it. My missus said my face was a picture and went white when I thought there was something up. The A4's my baby!!!!
