How often do you change your engine oil?

Every X Miles? Every X months?

6 months , as little as 1400 miles

Also every 6 months, just did my this weekend for the winter with about 4000 miles since last done.
Always use Quantum 3 long life.

Every 12 months regardless of miles. I do about 10-12k a year buts its mainly motorway driving.

Don't drive it hard and I always just top up the oil. Done it with all my cars

Every 6 months.. with 5w 40 nanodrive cfs . im only doing about 3 thousand a year but better safe than sorry.. stage 2+ . 5w 40 recomended by Rtech

10k at the max and usually 5-8k

Once a year, in which I cover about 6k to 10k. It drinks about 500ml a month so it's forever getting some fresh oil. :)

ill most likely change yearly... the car wont do a lot of miles, would rather use 5w 40 and audi filter... what is the preferd option on this..??

Why do you change oil so often? I'm new to Audi and diesel and aren't as experienced as you guys here. On my old car, Seat, I changed oil ones a year or approx. 18.000 km. I bought an A3 in February and drove 10.000 km since. Te dealer did 60.000 service before sale, oil change inclusive. I considered changing oil before winter, but still I have a question: why so often if the user manual states that oil should be changed every 30K km? Or should I read the user manual more carefully?

Engine oil is the lifeblood of any engine, I always run fixed servicing at 9/10k miles with fully synthetic oil and a Genuine oil filter.
I've only had my A3 a few months and am running that on Long life III but still sticking to the same service interval.
The extended service intervals eg 30K km were mainly introduced to cut running costs for fleet users, these intervals might be perfectly safe, but given that here in the UK I can buy a 5 litre container of Long life III and a Genuine Audi filter for less than £25 and change the oil myself I'm quite content to change the oil at a much reduced interval.
It's a cheap price to pay for peace of mind IMHO.

30,000 km is to long for an oil change. There have been many cases of blocked oil strainers causing oil starvation in Audi engines, all due to longlife oil servicing.
18000km is about the right annual distance for a privately owned car, oil change regime, as you are doing but please don't assume 30,000km. is good for your engine.

2.0TDI PD 140. I change it every 9000 miles, irrespective of whether the car has done mostly motorway mileage or town mileage. This applies for both Longlife or non-Longlife oils.

Oil and filter change every 3 months during summer time, once over winter.
The power I'm running I like to keep it in good order.

Thanks for your explanation. I didn't know of the Audi engine issues of this type.

All I can really say is wow....

That's a like finding a whole new coal deposit in your front yard.....no need to go mining.

You can’t really change engine oil too often. Longlife servicing is controversial on lots of car manufacturer forums and is really only a marketing ploy for new cars being sold to people running businesses. Assuming you do average or below average mileage annually, once per year is normally fine.

Every year when service is due, around 10-12k in terms of mileage.

Every service which is 7K for me, I now only use the best for the price range which is Millers CFS Nanodrive 5W40 (or Motul 300V).

I see most oils mentioned in this tread are for petrol engines. Do you have any recommendation for a diesel engine? In a garage where I service my car, they use Liqui Molly. Is it a good option? Also, the original Audi filters were mentioned here. Don't aftermarket alternatives perform well?

For diesels with dpf the oil has to be C3 low saps .

507.00 or Fuchs does a ester racing oil dpf friendly called Titan Race Pro C3 .

Quite a lot of variation it seems.
Mines has come up to 2,500 miles in 1 year. Should i change it?

No matter what make of vehicle, I always use Genuine oil filters from the maker concerned.
These are often made by well-known filtration companies eg Mercedes use Mann & Hummel filters, Audi do too.
There are plenty of good filter makers out there eg Bosch, Hengst which I'm happy to use for air, pollen and fuel filters but when it comes to oil filtration I like to play safe and buy the best I possibly can.

Plus one although my S3 doesn't drink quite as much oil as that. ;)

The picture is from a 3.2, don't know if it was a TT, but it was never serviced at all.
Read about it a while back. Thing is, it apparently ran quite well...!
On top of that, an injector seal problem turned the oil in my tdi just the same way after only 4 weeks, so again, I wouldn't mess about with oil changes and longlife servicing cannot be a good thing.

Every 12 months for me but I do a max 3-4k a year.

Always check oil levels monthly and top up if needed.

If I was to do more miles I would do it every 6 months.

every 6 months now i'm stage 2+

was only doing around 8000 miles per year too. even less now i've moved nearer to work!
