I haven't had my S3 for long but I am the kind of person who always thinks about the next step, the question is what that would be in this case. What would be a fun upgrade from the S3? There's the RS3 I guess which springs to mind quickly but in the current form I am unsure if it would feel like such a big upgrade? If the new one gets those 400 hp as in the TT RS I guess it will be a different beast though. Another route is a TT RS or a Porsche of some sort I guess, but that takes the car even further into being just a toy and harder to motivate.

What are your plans for the future?

I am not really sure I will be able to motivate even having any car after this one let alone add a lot, but who knows :p. I'd really love to be able to motivate a used R8, Lamborghini or such but I think madness like that will not strike me for at least a few years.

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm buying two vehicles for the dollars I get for my S3

One car a small pocket rocket for local use and a 4WD double cab for the other fun stuff.

I'm having exactly the same thoughts as you and currently have a 2 year old S3 which I'm now looking to change…business is doing well so went to look at a new R8 but just can't allow myself to pay that sort of dosh for a car.

Went to look at the Porsche Boxster/Cayman but not sure I'm really keen on the appearance/interior, not keen on Mercedes/BMW either.

So I think I'm going to stick with another Audi, I like the style/interior/tech that they offer.
Currently weighing up a new FL S3 - 3 door (I'd buy the RS3 if they did it in a 3 door), TTRS (It doesn't have some of the goodies that the S3/S5 has though like adaptive cruise/Traffic Jam assist/second centre display/Pre-sense/Illuminated door sills etc…) or the new S5 which I went to see at Bristol Audi on Friday and was a seriously lovely car and is probably topping my list right now…or….wait for the new RS5 which I've read is due for release early next year.

Decisions, decisions…lol

I like to plan well ahead and have been having a conversation with another member on here about this very topic.
I would love to stay in an A3, probably s-line with the 1.4 150 COD s-tronic. However, with my back not being the best I'm thinking of going for a higher seating position. Not a fan of the Q3 and haven't seen enough of the Q2 yet. Other possibilities are XC60, Merc GLA, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, BM X1 and Nissan X-Trail. Surprisingly they are all similar in deposit and monthly's to the A3/Q2.
Got 14 months till I order, decisions decisions!!

New S5 looks really nice albeit a different slightly more mature offering than a S3. Less hot hatch more GT perhaps.

Adding the baggage hooks in the boot of my S5 was the best mod I have...! That and the interior LEDs.....I'm such a petrol head considering those are my must have mods...!

Didn't realise you had an S3. I'm thinking of downsizing to the S3. Maybe we should swap...? Lol

Nice replies! Many fun options people are thinking about. I am really hoping I get the chance of owning a supercar in the next 5 years, I would love a used 2-3 years old R8, Lamborghini, or McLaren and keep that for a year or so. Hopefully that can become a reality

Merc GLA,

not the GLA..... it has that awful stuck on screen and plastic interior. I test drove one before I ordered my S3 and although drive position is good everything else is plain average and would probably do your back more damage than good with the amount of body roll it has.

To the OP..I am thinking 18 months ahead and thinking about a 1-2 year old Porsche Macan or Cayman or a year old "New" S5. Considered a BMW 430 or 435 x drive but I cant bring myself to buy a BMW

You don't do passengers mate so TTRS all the way! lol
S5 Coupe is nice!
S3 Saloon... Nah. Not because it's not a great car but you'd be coming from a S3 so it won't have the wow factor for you.

At least one of the Us tuning shops sell grocery bag holder for the S3 (saloon) and it seems to be pretty popular....
Ought to help against groceries being all over the place after some heavy foot driving...

About Volvo, really like the design of the new XC90 and V90... Driving the XC90 was a blast and more luxury living room feel is hard to get....

But way too big cars for us and their other, older, models are not to my taste...

Cheers for that Dave. Mate has a C-class AMG and it's very nice on the outside but as you say, a lump of hard plastic inside.

The XC60 has just been refreshed. New grill, new auto box in the FWD with 8 gears. Will see what they are offering in 14 months.
The XC90 is now a very big beast that competes against the Q7. As you say, it's like sitting in your living room sofa. Every mod con you require for driving.
