So, i've found a new noise to diagnose.
When turning anything off centre (more noticable when turning left) I hear a knocking that is obviously from the O/S front wheel.
I thought I had picked up a nail or stone but can't find anything in the tyre - could be the CV joint?

Or i've seen one explanation that it could be the front ARB bushings?

Going to stick my arm/camera under the car tonight and have a proper look whats' going on...

Any other suggestions?

Had a butchers yesterday evening, expecting a greasy/rubbery mess (ooh-err). No such luck, so a little unsure if CV joints are "expected" to just go at 86k, without any split in the boots? I checked inners and outers on both front axles.

Yeah, hard to get off the main roads though... Otherwise a sound plan!

Seized top mount bearing?
Is that a common issue on S4's? I can see if I can give it a squirt of silicone spray and see if the noise goes away...

I've also noticed most of the undertray bolts are missing/replaced with zip-ties. any recommendation on what others have done to re-secure it back on?

Cheers,
Mac

Ok, weird one; the noise that persisted for a couple of weeks has now gone since my fetling last night?

Will leave it and see, although the only thing I did was raise the front corner and take the wheel off. Maybe it is something to do with the top mount bushing/bearing...

Knocking is more than likely one of the suspension arms. If they've never been changed then they are approaching 12-16 years old.

I've just changed al my original items at 152k and 12 years, the N/S lower rear arm was creaking and knocking away, on removal the ball joint was completely shot.

Something else worth checking is the brakes- spent ages tracing a knock on my old B5 and finally traced it to a brake pad that was occasionally rattling in the caliper.

Good luck, Frank.

Thanks Frank,

Very useful as i was experiencing this when i had my old non-oem 20'' heavy wheels. Continual running of these seems to have taken a toll on my suspension due to the great additional unsprung weight.
