Soo, as some of you guys know, I took delivery of my S3 yesterday and have been umming and aaring where to park her overnight. The drive? the garage? The road (luckily I don't have to consider this but am sure some people must have to)?

My preference was to put it in the garage and so, before I took delivery of my car I compared it to a car that I could fit in it - all was fine... But, Day 2 of S3 ownership, I can get the car in, but I can't get out of it... Fun times! (no beer belly either!)

Long story short, I may have climbed out the boot and onto a stepladder (to avoid damage to the bumper).... Believe it or not this is the lesser of two evils as there's always lots of brats kicking balls in directions they don't have control over in my street, as well as strong winds and lots of trees. A lot of faff but think long term it'll be better for the condition of the car.

Looked into it a bit and apparently 75% of people in the UK can't fit their car in their garage even if they wanted to which got me wondering... where do you guys park your pride and joy!?

It's going on the drive, insurance in the garage costs more.

Secondly, I like my workbench/man cave.

Mine will be on the driveway, which is fortunately about 50 feet away from the road, and not visible from the road.

I will also keep the key fob hanging around the neck of my Rottweiler... puppy :D

That would be my preferred choice too if i didn't have wanna be David Beckhams in my street as well as being an obsessive compulsive detailer lol

On the drive usually, or if it's just been cleaned and it looks like it's going to rain, the garage.

However, the OP with that narrow garage needs to get himself a parkino;

In the attached garage. It's extremely secure in there and, even if someone figured out the security system, there's another car parked on the driveway so the S3 couldn't be removed anyway; it'd be easier to steal the house. Tbh though, it isn't really security that makes the S3 an indoor car so much as keeping it clean. It's in showroom condition at all times (gets cleaned before and after every drive) so I don't want to deal with all the crap that would land on it if was kept outdoors.

£30k will secure you a leggy R8 these days, and a half decent one could be had for new well optioned S3 money. The depreciation will be far easier to swallow as well....

So, to answer the question, most of us could. Even me, and I live in a terraced house. Of course it's in London, so if I ever wanted to move out of the big city I'm told by estate agents I could swap it for something a bit bigger, like Aberdeen... ;-)

On the driveway. It would fit in the garage quiet easily and I could get out easily but we have lived in the house for nearly 18 years and a car had never been in there

Common problem...modern cars are so much bigger than the 1960's dimensions of UK single garages! ... thats also why so many are used as dumping grounds rather than for cars!..

The current cars continue to grow in size yet garages dont... crazy... for example the Ford Focus is significantly larger than the family MK1 Escort and the current VW Mk 8 Golf is massive in comparison to the MK1 Golf. ( Infact the current Polo is larger than the MK1 Golf)

Your solution...

No more nail ( or equiv grippy glue) some old carpet to the side of the garage and the back wall. That will help protect against minor knocks to the front and doors. Hang a string with a plastic golf practice ball from one of the beams at the exact distance that the ball touches the windscreen and your car is safely inside the garage but the front of the car is not touching the back wall. You also make sure the ball is hung in line with the driver so you know exactly how far over you can safely drive to one side ( therefore ensuring u have space to exit car from the doors - not boot ! )

This cuts a lot of the guess work out and helps you to best position the car in the garage everytime

Hey presto!

Good luck..

Definitely an interesting proposition! Hard to find much about it though i.e. pricing/owner reviews. May have to give them a bell

You seem to be obsessed with people who can afford an R8. This is at least the third thread I have seen you comment on this.

You pathetic sad loser.

No you're looking at it the wrong way - it's because he's got an R8 that he can only afford a semi-detached house!

Hang on a minute people, let's just back up the bus... @CarloS3 said in his first post that he drove the car into the garage, then climbed into the back seat, folded the seat down, climbed into the boot, then climbed out the car and onto a ladder!

Anyone else think we *need* to see a video of this? :D

Expected a bigger p1ss take about that but that detail seemed to go under the radar hahaha.

P.S. The (step)ladder is definitely non negotiable, I wasn't blessed with long legs unfortunately.

Mine will brave the elements, the birds, the bad drivers and the loneliness of being parked in the street. It'll be dirty more often than not, It'll be parked between wheely bins and a 51 Toyota grazing its rear bumper. It'll give me turbo rattles in the morning for not caring enough but such is life :-(
