Morning everyone.

I have a question I hope fellow members can help with I would like to do an oil and filter change on our 8v a3 2.0 tdi could someone who has allready done this tell me how big a socket I need to remove oil filter housing someone did say it was a 32mm size but we're Unsure also how do I drain filter before removing. The other question I have is how do you guys go about getting your car on ramps I have found that our bumper hits the ramp before wheel gets anywhere near it this also happens with ramp extensions.

Ps our car has s-line sport suspension.

Thank you.

On my S3 it was indeed 32mm or 1 1/4 inch in old money - may be different on the tdi- is your filter visible to the front left on the engine cover ?

Have you considered an oil extractor ? Much less hassle than grovelling underneath and removing the under tray. According to the ETKA Audi's electronic service manual, this is what Audi themselves would use. Some very reasonable ones around the £40 mark on Amazon the one by Sealey gets good reviews. Look for 6L minimum capacity.

I've got the Sealey 6.5L extractor, it's a great piece of kit.

Reverse it on?

edit: just occurred to me that you're probably not on about garage style lift ramps so the above would be pointless...

I have these, sometimes I also use a couple of planks of wood for an extra few inches - I've taken my under tray off with these and fitted my boost pipes and 034 dogbone mount :-
