Ive justpurchased a 2010 A6 c6 facelift and want to update the mmi and maps to the latest version.
I have 3g+ (joy stick in the centre wheel)
Is this something I can do from home as there's plenty of maps and updates on ebayand online or is this a dealer only thing as I've herd horror story's of bricked mmi's etc how much do dealers charge?

You just have 3G (HDD version), 3G Plus on the A6 started in the C7 model. Don't get the 2 firmware mixed up (you will brick your MMI system)

You can diy but there are risks which sounds like what you have read about. Forget about the ebay sellers, they are just charging for the same stuff you can download for free. I would talk to you dealer about costs but your looking at around £200-£300, as the firmware takes about an hour and the maps can take about 2-3, and if you get a failure during the update it will double that time so make sure you have a battery charger, and connect to the terminals under the bonnet.

Just spoke audio Leicester and they have said they can't update firmware but can update maps but will cost 280 and will take 3 hours ? Is this correct ?
Do I need a firmware upgrade to update to maps or can I just update maps?
Bit lost

What firmware are you on? As I said in my last post maps updates takes around 2-3 hours

I don't know how do I find out what firmwareally and maps I have.
Thanks for the response

It's in the setup menu

That version was back from 2009, the current version is "HNav_EU_K0257_6_D1" If you google that version you will find many threads about upgrading and download of the software & maps. If you diy make sure you have a battery charger.
