Indeed.
Haven't pushed the revs at all but low down grunt combined with 7 speed S Tronic means its plenty quick enough without trying.

I'm currently running a A3 Sportback 150 ps S-Tronic which is pretty rapid... And ordered the FL S3, so I can imagine the 190 is quick

I was going to get an S3, but my average speed is less than 20mph !
I do 5k miles pa.............just couldn't really justify 310PS and 4WD for my use.
I'm sure you will love your S3.
The virtual cockpit might not be to all tastes but I think its great.

I agree not worth it for the miles you do.. Yes I'm sure I'll be sat on the driveway for hours trying to decide the best layout for the VC

Very nice indeed. Is that Floret?? Likey what my next car will look like except with standard 18s and the 1.4 COD 150.
The 190 will be plenty quick around town and for the 5k you drive. Enjoy buddy stunning car.

Great looking car. I will be ordering a new A3 in the next few months and it will be Floret Silver for certain. Not sure yet if it will be another 184 TDI or a 190 TFSI. I do around 14k miles a year including quite a few in Europe where diesel is quite a bit cheaper that petrol. It will definitely be s-tronic and probably quattro. I've always been impressed with the s-tronic and the low-down torque of my 184 but the new 190 has almost as much and will be quieter. I feel some test drives coming on as soon as the new 184 is available.

Love the floret with privacy glass and pano, car looks fantastic. 2.0 appears to have much better torque than the old 1.8

That looks stunning mate. That'll put a smile on your face whenever you're walking back to it.

Same predicament with regards to the S3. I do 6k per year, 5 miles return to work.

Car looks awesome mate - congratulations !!

Really like the wheels too.

First job today - take the Listers sticker off the rear screen !!

Lol - yes done that !
I would say Listers in Solihull have been absolutely great. I have no hesitation in recommending them.
My sales chap honestly did care about my purchase.

Hello B.. let me be the last to congratulate you! Great stuff.

As you know we had very little in the way of reviews of the 190 ps engine so your experience will be unique and invaluable.

I did read in one review that Audi engineers did say the A3 was more suited to the 190 ps engine than the A4 because of a new turbo.

anyway, if its not too much trouble and when you get time could you give a few comments on the items below

comfort? Ride over different surfaces. Noise and composure on English roads. Performance as I'd be coming back from a 308 bhp BMW335D to a 188 bhp car albeit a much lighter specimen with a more progressive petrol engine than a torque monster.

Congrats again EC

It will be my pleasure.
I'll post an update after giving it some proper use over the weekend.

Are English roads similar to British or UK roads?

Lovely car BTW?

Sorry Ken a slip of the (native) pen . Your version is preferable! Having said that the Leeds roads are ****** awful and they are English.

I'm taking my 184 TDI A3 on a two week holiday to Germany tomorrow. At least there they know how to build and maintain their roads.

Hi EC
Managed to get the car to 250 miles now !
Some initial thoughts -
Loving the engine / gearbox. I'm still taking it easy but the torque means I can accelerate quickly without having to stretch the engine which makes quite a pleasant noise, if not in the same league as an S3.
In the city I'm getting low 30's mpg but on an A road run yesterday I got 45mpg which is amazing.
At a steady speed the engine is silent but there is quite a tyre roar.
I was concerned about the suspension being too firm. I have the standard set up on the S Line. Its certainly firm but never uncomfortable. I'm happy with it and glad I didn't de-select it.
Floret / pano roof / privacy glass / dynamic wheels look superb (IMO).
The progressive steering is also very good - worth the money as it makes the car a bit more "alive".
Likewise the pano roof and advanced key - I'm glad I got these.
The virtual cockpit looks absolutely great and I'm using the Apple Carplay every day.
I'm not sure that I will really be using much of the remainder of the tech pack. Its a really impressive bit of kit, but not something I expect to use that often.
The cloth seats are very comfortable and look great.
All in all, I'm a happy chap - and I've even learnt how to cover up my number plate !

Thanks for this - the first report I've seen on the engine set up in this depth.

I'm very close to going for this as my next conveyance with some differences although I'd go for Floret.

Always had saloons so would go for theA3 saloon.
Mostly driven 4 wheel drive so will go Quattro cos the North East has bad weather in Northumberland in winter.
Will probably go standard suspension and Sport to save bit of money.
Not sure I'd be able to master the Virtual Cockpit so it might be wasted on me.

One question. although its not truly dark yet any views on the LED lights ?

Very pleased you've got just what you wanted.

I went out at night specifically to try the lights and they are excellent.
The VC is straight forward to use and looks great - but of course that's my personal taste.
Hope this has been of some help.

Hi BB,
Stunning car, good colour choice too -really suits it.
Hope you are enjoying it and have put a few miles on it now ?.
My first post , but have been researching on the forum already, some really good stuff on here !.

I'm in the fortunate position of having to chose a replacement car this week and am in need of some advice hopefully from those that know about these things.
I'm currently in a Golf Mk7 GTD ,and am looking to have A3 - especially after the recent facelift.
I notice the 184 diesel only comes a Quattro now, and this is out of my price range, so have been looking at the petrol alternatives.
I have tried the 150 tfsi and whilst I'm very impressed with the performance for a 1.4 - it just does not quite have the mid range "urge " that I'd like.
No success in getting a test drive in a 190 tfsi though as there don't seem to be any about.

There's little review information anywhere for the 2.0 190 tfsi, apart from a review on Autocar that does not really tell very much.

So does anyone have any idea how the 2.0 190 tfsi performs compared to a 184 diesel ? , and if I'd be happy with the sort of mid range 50-70, and 60-80 acceleration range that's so useful in making a good fast A road and motorway car ?

Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Thanks for reading..............

Hi Dan

I tend to drive on torque rather than thrashing the engine.
I don't think the 2.0 petrol can match the bigger diesel in this respect, however the diesel, especially with 4WD is much heavier.
The petrol is more refined.
The 2.0 petrol has approx. 30% more torque than the 1.4 and its available over a wider rev range. I think my mpg isn't far of the 1.4 in real life.
BB

I would say, judging by your figures its about 10mpg less around town and about the same on a 'A' road, but then I'm not driving it. But don't take that to heart...

Agree, that is a great looking car.

There is a facelift Golf coming, which should be announced in a few weeks. But probably not available until next year, so may be too late for you?

I drive a Mk6 GTD and my wife has 2 year old A3. The thing I really miss going from the Golf to the Audi is a right foot rest. Why do Audi's not have right foot rests? If you use cruise control much then (unless you have really short legs) you may find long distances in the Audi uncomfortable. I know I do.

Hi chaps, thanks for the comments, all very helpful.
I come from a series of previous big diesels so am happy with the concept of driving on the torque, and find this suits my needs well.
Not too bothered about the fuel economy as it's all in on the company scheme , with no option to pay own fuel.
Nothing wrong in particular with the Golf- just fancy a change and am blown away by the quality of the A3 interior - and I always hankered after an Audi too.

Can't stretch on price to a Quattro diesel, so hence the interest in the tfsi 190 in sport trim - seems very good value for the published performance.
Only other car apart from the A3 that I liked enough to drive was the ST3 diesel focus, it's a great drive ,big torquey diesel, but a step down in cabin quality.

Not sure if I'm prepared to order a car version without driving it first though, as I have to live with it for 3 yrs- gonna have to think about that...........
Anyway thanks again for the comments guys.

I got to say, i keep coming back to look at this A3, i think I'm ready to order my S-line in Floret now, and will not hold out for the black pack, as this there is no news on it.

Have you tried the 150TDi? Appreciate it's less power than the GTD, but it most cases it should provide all the shove you'll need.

Can always remap further down the line if you feel you're missing out.

Either way, it's gotta be a better compromise than looking at the focus.

On a slightly different theme but still on the 190 ps 2.0 tfsi, anyone know why the quattro version knocks .6 second off the front wheel drive 0-62 time in the specification. I know from BMW times that the xdrive can sometimes shave .2 second off times even though a heavier car but this difference seems significant, doesn't it?

Does it reflect a fully effective 4 wheel drive system eg absence of wheel spin at start off?

it can only be traction off the line
