Hiya, I have a A4 cabriolet had the roof down yesterday, went to put it back up and it didn't want to do anything. Manually put it up and now the car constantly says "soft top not secure" tried a full manual cycle afew times and the same issue. roof unhooks from the windscreen and that's it, no noise from the motor, the roof will then lock back down if I press the switch to close it.

Thing I'm confused about is that if I manually open the roof, the "soft top not secure" warning goes, press the roof button, the lid opens, the roof lifts out but then just stops, rear window doesn't lift to allow the lid to drop back down, I just get the motor sound but nothing continues moving.

VCDS shows
F295 Convertibletop latch switch, closed

Measuring blocks show when closed
11010010

I believe it's supposed to be 11011010 according to Ross tech, so is this a top lock micro switch issue?

Hi Vag Cabby,

Im no expert but for diagnoses I would say try the below link.

http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/2002-audi-cab-fault-codes-help.98277/

If you still experience the same, I would then assume its the Micro switch.

Luckily I havent had your exact issue BUT I have had to manually reset the roof a couple of time. Often what's missed is the correct way to manually reset the roof which i think is covered in the above.

I hope this helps

Thank you Dr Strange, I will try what is mentioned in the above link.

So annoying as I have had the car for 4 year with no issues at all!. Suppose it's about time it gave me an issue haha

Pleasure.
..and for all the times you've helped us cabby owners!
haha sure is..its only a matter of time eeek.

Looks like micro switch by dtc , they sometimes dont fully close the switch, the mechanism has two lobes , 1 at each end of the metal plate which moves the arms to lock and unlock the roof ,what happens is occasionally the lobe does not quite contact the m/s ,i just take everything off , grease it all then check using the manual tool ,lock ,listen for click ,unlock listen for click(from microswitch) , really they should be lubricated at least once a year!

Thanks for the reply guy's, sorry it's taken me so long to reply been busy with work.

Got around to stripping the front of the roof down. Plugged in vcds and started pressing micro switches, the switch on the left hand side of the windscreen shows functioning in VCDS, so I took the whole top lock motor off from the roof and pressed the two micro switches on that, they both don't change any values on VCDS so I'm guessing these are toast.

My question is, can these switch's be purchased on their own or do I have to buy the whole motor? As it seems a waste to replace everything just for some failed micro switches.

Check them with a meter dont rely on vcds, sometimes vcds wont read a switch unless you operate something else like the motor, just use a multimeter and set it to diode test, when you press the switch the meter sholud beep when you let get of the switch contact the beep should stop.

I'll check in the next couple of days Darren, thanks.

Reason I'm suspecting the switches are faulty is because of the measuring blocks showing
11010010 when closed, when it should be 11011010, 5th value is the top lock microswitch. When operating the roof from open the 5th value always stays on '0' when I try to open the roof from closed that value stays at '0' when the others change.
If I do a full manual reset every value changes apart from the 5th one.
When the roof is closed it pings up saying soft top not secure so I'm guessing the switch isn't sending a signal to say it's closed.
Both the microswitches click when pressed.

I'll check with a multimeter this weekend, may pay a visit to the breakers yard and see if I can salvage a microswitch if the same type .

I will keep this updated.
