Hi,

Wondering whether anyone can shed some light on this for me.

I've had a airbag light on the dash and the "passenger air bag is off" illuminated constantly and took the car to Audi who confirmed that the airbag module appears to be the issue. Found other people on here with similar issues so i sourced a used module with no crash data and spent two hours swapping it over yesterday which was a big job taking out the centre console, no wonder why Audi wanted a grand to do it!

When plugging it back in the "passenger air bag is off" was no longer lit which was great and now i have a seat belt light and dong when the seat belts are not in position when driving which has never happened before (Audi reset the VAGCOM tweaks that were on the car so i know that it wasnt coded out etc).

However i still have the airbag light on the dash, i've read that this can be just old codes that need to be cleared or that some airbag modules need to have the coding changed within VAGCOM.

I'm due to see a friend of mine tomorrow evening who has VAGCOM to investigate. I've got an impending MOT due so i need to sort this out over the next few days.

Has anyone experienced the same thing or similar and can confirm what is required now?

Thanks in advance for anyones help!

Louis

When unplugging anything from the airbag system including module it will need codes clearing & the tweaks they can also do.

Hi NHN,

Thanks for your reply, so sounds like i shouldnt need to do anything more than clearing codes?

I'm pretty sure using a used module; component protection will need to be removed.

Hi John?

You're right, so plugged into VCDS this evening. Loads of codes I guess from the unplugging of items to get the module.

Cleared all codes with only one remaining, Air Bag - component protection active:

So most of what I read suggested that only a Dealer can reset this. Does anyone know if that is the case? Seems it cannot be done with VCDS/VAGCOM.

Hi John,

You were correct, had the component protection removed this morning from a local Audi Specialist, £30+VAT and took about 10minutes.
