Yesterday whilst out in my car the oil warning light came on and car started tapping so shut it off asap. Got home we Re started the car the tapping had gone and the oil light was out. Took it round the block a few times. Just as I was pulling up outside my house the oil light came back on so shut it off and left it on my drive. Any ideas it's a 1.8t I put some oil in it the morning it started and put on a new breather pipe off the block

Clogged oil pick up strainer would be the most likely suspect. Sump off job I'm afraid. Strongly advise you not to drive it or you risk destroying the engine & turbo.

get the sump off an change the oil pick up and strainer
common problem on 1.8t engines

Odd one this gave it an oil changed and flushed the engine and it seems to be sorted was out in it for an hour yesterday

You still REALLY need to renew the pick up strainer though .

How often do you service and what oil ?

Every 6 months 5/40 oil it's booked into the garage to get the sump off

Use 5W30 504.00 , higher overall additive concentration package , better basestocks , detergency etc .

What did the driver information system say, check oil level OR low oil pressure, stop engine. Low oil level can make the engine tappety the same as low oil pressure can, people are so quick to mention, "sump off, clean pick up" but if you didn't see LOW OIL PRESSURE?

For oil see this link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222183174678?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
