The new car tax rates from April 2017 are out and have been for a while but there doesn't seem to have been much noise about the charge for vehicles with an RRP of over £40k.
For those that don't know, any car with an RRP of over £40,000 will, for five years have a surcharge of £310 applied to the car tax every year, making a £40,000+ car have a tax of £455 for 5 years, irrespective of if it is clean or not (Electric cars will be £310/year).
This just seems a tax on those with nice cars, and will certainly do a lot of damage to the premium car market.
I spoke to a friend who works at BMW, and they are allegedly seriously worried at a high level about the knock on effect this will have on sales.
Thoughts?
