It's like a Harry Potter book launch!
I'm picking mine up on Thursday and I was offered the midnight option. The sales guy said there would be food and drink, but whilst I can see the attraction I can wait until the following morning. I live 20 minutes drive from the dealership and if I picked it up at midnight I'd want to drive it all night, whereas the following morning I've got the rest of the day. I'm not a night owl.
Years ago when the registration prefix changed just once a year, there was a dealership close to the M25 (or it might have been a number of dealerships) who used to have a party from about 9 or 10 pm on the eve of the new registration date and after midnight the new owners would all go out and do a circuit of the M25 in their new cars. I don't think I'll be doing that on Thursday!

I can remember my midnight drive back in '98 (an Impreza Terzo - blue with gold wheels whats not to like 
)
The Audi sales guys seemed to be up for it. I was surprised to get a postcard asking if I wanted to do it I must admit.
I'm self employed, so an "out of hours" pickup is good for me.

I agree on the "out of hours" point. I'm retired and have all the time in the world, so a nice quiet midweek handover suits me just fine. First priority will be to fill it up and the petrol station will be almost deserted on a Thursday morning. Different story on Saturdays!
I am not a fan, having collected my 8V on March 1st this year at Midnight, it was a nice experience but collection at night meant that issues that would have been seen in the daylight were unseen. I had to return the next day! From this experience I would recommend that people look around the car really carefully in the daylight before collection at Midnight.

Picking mine up at 11am on Thursday. I don't see the point in picking it up in the middle of the night.
