Hi guys I have an a3 with the bxe engine. It was making a tapping noise so I took it to a garage and they replaced the camshaft had it running 15 min and the noise came back.took a look at the cam and it was covered in scratches.Any ideas what could cause this?

YOU need to post a few pictures, I have seen cheap cams get worn in short time but I would not expect a cam to wear in 15 min ! There is a bed in period for new cams so they don't bind !

This is everything it had done

I can't get any pictures of the cam sorry as the car is back at home not in the garage. After I had the above work done it was still making the tapping noise so I took it back. the garage said there is nothing wrong with it. After 3 weeks of arguing that the problem wasn't fixed I managed to get him to take another look at the camshaft and he agreed that it was ********. He said that he would check the oil pressure and put another new cam in. When I went to pick the car up I noticed a small oil leak from around the gasket so I got him to reseal it. When he took the cover off the inside was dry and of course this cam was now ********.I couldn't afford to keep spending on the car so I fetched it home on a trailer

It's his mistakes and responsibility , he's a muppet .

If a camshaft has worn it's best to find out why as the new could and has rapidly followed suit .

Oil pressure and good flow is number 1 .

Has he taken money from you , as he hasn't fixed anything ?

Surely this is a case for the Consumer Rights Act of 2015 ?

This is what I thought. I told him there could be a blockage some where or a faulty oil pump but he said I would have to pay for him to do this work. I had already given him £1500 and didn't see why I should pay any more that's why I got the car home. I've had to go and buy another car and now I don't know what to do about getting the audi fixed

Eeeek! So no oil flowing around the cams, oil pump is knackered or oil flow being impeded by blockages to the camshaft oil feed. I'm afraid it's going to be an expensive job investigating while oil is not circulating.

What a cowboy mechanic , is he a member of a motor trade body that has dispute resolution ?

If not , Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Trading Standards .
