Ok I have stripped the seats and carpet out of my allroad to fix an airbag fault with the under seat wiring , and investigated an annoying rattle from the pedal box. On normal driving there's a rattle metal on metal noise over slow speed uneven roads. I have replaced all the front suspension arms and steering and rack ends , tighten the steering rack bolts under the battery replaced the c drop links to the anti roll bar.
And it's still there, before I replace the carpet I want to eliminate the brake pedal rattle, in case it's that.
The brake pedal has a couple of mm of play in it lifting up at rest, I opened the lock nut on the adjuster and wound it out to take up the play, no more rattle only to have my brake pedal nearly half an inch higher than the clutch pedal.
The adjuster seems to be pointed where it goes into the plastic retainer in the top of the brake pedal, when adjusted back to the correct height you can hold the brake booster rod and lift the pedal up a couple of mm
Which at rest is just enough to rattle metal against metal which there is no pressure on it in normal driving conditions.

Can anyone help in advise in how to eliminate the loose play etc.

Check your engine mounts, I believe that's where the noise is from !
