Hi all,

First of all, apologise if this is already posted, but I have had a quick scan and it goes pretty in depth early on and I am a rookie by all accounts lol.

I am collecting my new car next Saturday and was look to buy some cleaning/detailing products in advance of the collection. So, I am looking for recommendations / a list of items to buy (also where from) that will enable me to keep on top of my car leaving it with a good finish once dried. I am looking for a..

1. Shampoo:
2. Drying aid:
3. Cleaning towels/cloths/mitts etc:
4. Spray on (wet or dry) car wax/polish that can be easily applied and buffed off with a cloth:?
5. Alloy wheel cleaner:
6. Any additional accessories that are handy:

Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thank you.

Hi buddy everyone had their own opinion.

What I use is -

Shampoo - dodo juice born to be mild
Drying aid - none. But I do want/need one.
Towels - I go through a lot. At the moment I have a mixture of auto glym for drying and finishing, but also have some sonus towels too. Just remember to rip the tag off when you get them.
Mitts - i have a gyeon smoothie mitt. I also have an older Meg's sheep's wool mitt for the lower parts of the car and sills.
Wax/sealant - I have recently been converted to CarPro reload. It does work very very well. Before I was using gtechniq crystal 2 v3 but it was a bit streaky (probably me doing it wrong). They are both a synthetic sealant. They do the same as a wax really. I do also have some auto glym aqua wax which you spray on the car wet, so it's also a drying aid but for the final stage. This is for when I'm lazy.
Alloy cleaner, I'm using bilt hamber auto wheel cleaner. It is amazing. I've actually run out and am using a multi purpose cleaner and to be fair it does the same, but I have to work it on harder.

Additional accessories I'm sure some would say to clay bar the car, then polish any blemishes out. IronX could also be used to get any iron out the paint work. Remember your car has probably come from Germany on a train and ship for the last 2 months so would have picked up a bit of dirt, especially from the rail road.

Slim's detailing sponsors this forum. Your best bet is to ring them, ask them what they'd recommend and then get 10% off as you're a member on this forum.
I also do a lot of buying from cleanyourcar.co.uk. I like their service, and they have a wide range of products.

Also, don't let the dealer do the final stage prep for your brand new car. They put many many swirls in the paint and basically ruin the car.

Posted on this forum a few times, a very good video here to show what a new car should look like, and the detailing process of a brand new car.

Wow! Thank you for the in depth response, I am not massively into the whole detailing products available so will more than likely go with your recommendations, much appreciated mate..

Well that's what I use isn't what others use.

See if you can get @Bristle Hound or @Scottyg to chime in. They're always recommending something.

You also want a prewash really. I snow foam, but others citrus pre wash it. I just like snow foaming lol

@mattmanwrx has given you a load of great products there. The best by far is CarPro Reload. Love the stuff. You can use it on all your paintwork, glass and alloys (seals your alloys).

I use AutoGlym Vinyl and Rubber Care as a tyre sheen. Pour a little into a cup and use a paint brush to apply to the tyre.

Bilberry Alloy Wheel Cleaner or AutoGlym Clean Wheels.

Drying aid- I use either Simoniz Quick Detailing Wax Spray or Megs Last Touch.

I tend not to use two bucket method but it can be useful if you have a dark coloured car also with grit guards.

As for claying, I'm converted to G3 Clay Mitts. Brilliant and much less time consuming. Just use a 1:3 diluted shampoo mix instead of quick detailer.

Invest in a DA if you can. DAS PRO6 off eBay would be a great one to get. You can get them with plenty pad buddles. For polishes, I'm a Megs UC man. But Audi paint is very hard.

I use a MF Noodle Mitt to wash. Haven't gone Lambs Wool but heard they don't wash well and can fall apart in the washing machine.

Hope this helps @CrypticMG

@CrypticMG - Where to start ! lol
Probably here ;) :D
http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/

Seriously tho' you'll find car Detailing very subjective

1. Shampoo
Bilt Hamber Auto Wash is my fave at the moment. Greta cleaning ability & great VFM too
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/bilt-hamber-auto-wash-cat3.html

2. Drying Aid
Infinity Wax Rapid Detailer
http://www.infinitywax.com/product/infinity-rapid-detail-spray-500ml/
Use the DW10 10% discount code to get it for £8.99 delivery

3. Towels/cloths/mitts
MF towels? My all time fave dring towel is the Prestige Car Care's Big Yellow
Leaves no lint behind whatsoever. Not cheap but worth it
https://www.prestigecarcareshop.com...ducts/prestige-car-cares-legendary-big-yellow

Wash mitt
Microfiber Madness Incredimitt
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/microfiber-madness-incredimitt.html

4. Check Detailing World out
Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer springs to mind

5. Alloy wheel cleaner
I don't use a specific wheel cleaner as I wash my car quite regularly so tend to use a medium strength APC (All purpose cleaner)

6. How deep are your pockets ! lol

Some great advice from @mattmanwrx & @Scottyg IMHO

As you can see from my new car protection detail on my S4 I tend to use quite a few varied products
