If a FL does come out, there's no way they'll bump the price up from £40k to £47k!

Only from Memory the RS3 including metallic paint was £43k in May 2016 watch this space, new engine higher spec standard interior ,Audi will charge ye far more, on parallel with the S3 pricing structure

Another good reason to delay the cars release so they can hike the price up :)

My 8P Audi RS3 Cornflower blue is 'flat' paint and I paid way more than £43K back in 2011: and I am still H A P P Y and CONTENT; BLUEY was purchased for the loooong term and 'stuff' A N Y and A L L and E V E R Y facelift.

A 3-door body, however; or a twin-turbo V8; hmmm...

Out in the late-August sunshine today in a humble 2.0 TT quattro roadster with the roof down - way better (for us) than any RS3 on a day like today... :racer:

I've heard it's going to be more.
£85k when it comes out in 2018.

I've got my order form from April that ended up missing out because of the production halt. It was still less than £41k with Metallic. I can't see anymore than a £2k rise for the FL. If it comes at all, of course!

I know that the RS3 fully specced is expensive for that category of car now. But like you say, if it went up to £47k basic I probably would be one of those silly enough to buy one.

I've struggled to think of what I would want other than a car from the RS range. Ive looked at Porsche, but by the time you spec half decent the price rockets and you are still in the poverty model then.

What would all of you buy as an alternative for £50k? Depending on how loud the RS4 is, that could be an option for me (if it arrives in time). The V8 would have sold it to me, I'm just interested to see how Audi make it fit the RS criteria, we all like noise after all....

The RS criteria?? The original RS had a 5-cylinder engine (RS2) and the first RS4 had a V6 so Audi are going back toward the origins with the next RS4.

As for the alternatives, only you can really answer that one. It all depends on your wants and needs. Forget the wind-up merchants and banter. You pays your money and makes your choice, as they say...

When I ordered mine there was already rumour of the saloon, but I went for it and after owning it for 9 months now, I do not for the slightest second regret it.

But... To throw this out there, have you seen the new Mercedes C43 AMG 4-Matic?? LoL

I were thinking more of noise levels, some of these performance V6's seem quite tame. This is one of the many reasons we all have fallen in love with the 5 pot....

I have always had a soft spot for BMW, but I could never own an M series BMW because of the artificial engine sound, really, really spoils it for me... I would rather have a quieter engine than listen to a synthesised engine note!! Not sure how anybody else feels about this?..

Mercedes is somewhere I won't go, never been a fan of them! I will admit that the new Mercedes do look very smart and I always look, but I don't think I will ever buy one... It's a mental thing ;)

I had number 11 of the B5 RS4, they sounded ****** fantastic, I don't know if i still have the videos I took from the introduction day at silverstone

So I have full faith Audi will work thier sports exhaust magic once again with the RS4

Totally agree about the fake noise, I love the M4 in sport + mode it's an epic car but the noise just left me utterly cold, R golf is just horrible to listen to when you drive it.

I don't understand why BMW and VW do it when Audi and Merc (and most sports car makers) have no problem making epic sounding cars

It's what the RS3 does, and how the RS3 does it, and sounds, on everyday roads and in all weather conditions, that makes the RS3 so special. True, there's other tasty stuff out there but the core/base RS3 package - forget the add-ons and/or glitzy bits and/or facelifts - still amazes me and me with 58-months of hum drum 8P ownership and still not wanting to change... :racer:

I totally agree .... its a 'super car scorching hot hatch' that does everything you ask if it - all year round !

It looks great - inside & out - is immensely powerful, sounds absolutely fantastic, it's a quality product, comfortable, practical, fairly economical & safe with 4 wheel drive.

My perfect car for sure too

I seem to recall ASN members getting excited back in 2011 on seeing their first RS3, go see the 8P RS3 Discussion thread, page-18, and post #713... And the same discussions, argument, and comparisons, were made then... :yahoo:

I bet those tame V6's don't sound a patch on your 1.4TFSI!

I bet his 1.4TFSI still sounds better than my Golf R! :tearsofjoy:

& you wonder why you get stick RVP20 with posts like that !

A perfect lesson in how to wind up ASN members & RS3 owners, mark I & II.

The majority of us can appreciate the mark I, mark II & FL if & when one materialises

That's the only thing giving me hope, I've listened to a few online and the noise is something else.. It reminds me of those Japanese cars we watch on Fast and Furious ;) I followed an S4 a couple of months back, he booted it from a roundabout and the engine sounds incredible. I just know how the V6's in the previous S4 sounded nothing like that, the RS4 sounds very quiet on the spy videos. The RS3 can be heard half a mile away and out of sight lmao, it's incredible!

I'm glad you agree, I know it won't bother some! BMW are great cars and the M division make some excellent, aggressive cars that go well above the RS' in my opinion. I haven't bothered with a test drive, because I know that regardless of what I think the artificial noise will stop me buying one.

Does the Golf R sound much different to the S3 then? They have the exact same engine I thought? I suppose Volkswagen will of added their tweaks. I've never sat in a Golf R, but I always give them some appreciation on the road. Maybe I should go and have a sit in one, I've always had a soft spot for Golf's.. But again it's one of those things, as long as there is an Audi I would have one over a Volkswagen.

Sound tuning will be the last thing they do, they will keep it low key for most of the ring testing

R golf owners can "fix" the fake sound in a couple of hours with a visit to milltek, they sound pretty decent with a new system, I would take one straight from the dealer to get it fitted, sure it's not RS3 music but a hundred times improvement over stock IMO

Ahh the King of the TDI's returns...

So compare with a humble, no facelift, 8P RS3 being taken off the drive (RS3copilot) to dry off its brakes:

Excuse the sniffs...

And a single wash bucket wash - can't be bothered with all that time wasting snow foam stuff... :scared2:

I suppose that makes sense, only time will tell what it will turn out like.. Fingers crossed, I prefer an estate.

That's right

The old TDI may I add which is outdated now

No wait...I'm a dreamer and there won't even be a facelift so I best go back to my not so current TDI
