Decided to take the day off to prep the car for its paint correction tomorrow! Process in volved snow foam, tar x, iron x, claying, then washed twice ready for polishing and waxing tomorrow (all be it preying the predicted rain doesnt come)!

I do love the black when it is cleaned and cant wait to see the paint back to its original glory!

Also this week I carried out my first modification, the ash tray delete kit! As you can see from the photos below the original was damaged and I had no use for an ash tray! Much better having a sizeable cubby whole and also wrapped the gear surround while I was at it. Not 100% sure on it yet what are your guys thoughts? Not sure whether to keep or bin!

Much better without the ashtray imo. ;)

I gave up smoking some years ago now so it's a pointless item for me now in any car anyway but I've always thought they're a waste of time anyway, ...most smokers I know would always just use an open window whilst smoking in the car.

The only time I ever used the ashtray was when I was younger & we were all parked up in the cars smoking whilst listening to music.

See now I've never been a smoker but I think if I was I dont think i'd ever smoke in my car, always far too precious over them!

The gear surround just pops off and the ash tray you just undo a couple of screws and pulls out. In order to get the ashtray delete kit in though it gets a bit more fiddly, you need to take the side handles off which requires a couple of bolts which are easy to get to, a couple right at the back under the climate control unit which are a little difficult to get to and then a couple of hex keys half way up the handles (5mm allen key required).

On the whole it's easy enough, probably took about 20-30 minutes all in all and I am so happy with the result :)

Hi Matt, I purchased from my local Audi dealer direct, part number: (8P0 863 301 A 4PK)it came to £12.88 inc VAT which I thought was quite reasonable for Audi!

I love black too when it's clean but my car must just hover up stones off the road when you clean to whole car properly you notice every little mark

Haha funny you say that, I have been tempted to ask the Dealer when buying my last few cars if I can clean it before buying because as you say it's only when you clean it you really notice all of the marks! But yes when it is clean Black looks superb!

Completely decontaminated the paint etc yesterday and awaiting a friend of mine to bring the machine polisher over later. Then I will smother her in wax!!

I had a go once with a machine polisher and made a right mess, the car looked clean but you could see lines in the sun of the direction I was polishing, so took it to be professionally detailed now I only do everything by hand.
It would good if somewhere did diy detail classes.

Ahh yeah its easy to go wrong and leave what they call hologram especially on black. There was a company that did do detailing classes, it was one day courses and they covered from prep through to polish but I am struggling to remember the name. I considered it when I had my Clio 182 and I'm sure it was discussed on the clio sport forum.

Did you go for a full machine polisher or a dual action one, the dual action ones are a lot easier for people new to machine polishing. Not as aggressive but an easy way to still get some fantastic results.

Full dewalt one wish I had bought a Dual action one now, especially with a black car, Van and bike!

Ahh yeah definitely would have been better off with a DA :)
