Cup Holder LED Lighting

Ive just bought the LED ring and wiring for this, hopefully I'll get it in the next week or so :)
Its a bit of a pain getting the peg type jointing things disconnected but if done carefully its not impossible.
I melted them a bit with a soldering iron and used a sharp chisel and pryed apart the two surfaces with some of those special plastic trim tools. Heart in mouth a bit as I feared I might buckle the top section but it came apart eventually. I used a glue gun to re-install. I obtained the wiring loom from the K electronic shop (German site) as I wanted to wire into the infamous fuse circuit so as to utilise the mmi. I didnt do it personaly but took the whole lot to a proffesional outfit who do these LED retros but do charge a whacking price But tbh the guy took a very long time trying out codes to get it to talk with the mmi and got there in the end thankfully. Happy bunny but broke
Wished to hell I checked carefully when I specced when I ordered but it was a bit misleading
Best of luck with your project

Thanks mate, I would assume "front" controls the cup holder light?

Well tbh I just have everything up full but yes I guess front would include the cupholder. Not really played around with it so far but I am sure others have?

Others' experience on the MMI is welcomed. The reason I am asking in such detail originate from the frustration of being able to enable the "front" selection but my cupholder still remained unlit.

Sounds like a coding issue or earth?
I do know the coding is very significant as the guy who did mine spent an age collaborating with others about it and he and they are real whizz kids at this stuff. There are others on here who know coding features and requirements and regularly chat in a foreign language (to me:blink:) about it. Not sure if your that well versed in coding so appols but maybe try to find a local clued up coder vcd etc. :friends:

Well, the parts arrived today, I followed the instructions in this thread, deliberately changing the wires around so it would be red...

To be honest, the hardest part was getting the centre console off, the rest was really straight forward. I used a Dremel to get the 1st 12 tabs off, prised it open, swapped the parts over then just glued it back together.

Really pleased with the results.

Looks good Tim.

Here are the bits I sent him and I also pre made the loom so was ready to rumble more or less. Doesn't get much easier than that.

PM if you would like it too.

Just been in to Belfast Audi to order the LED rings for this, none in stock so should hopefully have them next week. The weird thing is though, it only came up as being £16.82 on the system? I thought they were about £35?

Part list needed for the cup holder light mod.

8V0 947 157 A
8W0 971 832

000979940 x 2

@TimWills28 your invoice shows 4E0972575 too which already came supplied with the light, (ETKA didn't tell me this), however I included 2 butt connectors for you instead to make up for it :)

Cheers

I see you have a menu for 'exterior lighting' there too. I don't have this in mine, what all can be adjusted/controlled from it?

Just a few items concerned with auto lights :calm:

Currently sat in the car trying to remove the cig lighter unit so I can take it inside and wire it up...

Anyone any idea on how to remove it?

Did not remove it mate, worked on led housing inside then went back to car just spliced and joined cigarette wires at the bottom...soldering them is a problem unless you have gas powered to do it...

Yeah I know you did, I've watched your video a few times now haha

I just want to go inside and do to that's all, get to sit in a nice comfy chair

I've just searched the forum on how to remove the cig lighter, it seams like you need a specialist tool for it from the VAG group.

I guess I'll just have to make myself comfy in my car *switches air con on*

Dremel made light work of the little tabs, had all 12 removed in less that 10 mins! Glued it back together with some Dow Corning 3145 silicon. Only installed the rings today, will do the wiring in a few days when I have a bit more time

Yeah, was a piece of cake! Got a couple of nice little bits for it from work too, little ball cut right through the tabs, then the abrasive cone tidied up and scuffed the area for gluing!

I really want to properly wire this in so it can be controlled through the MMI. Is it worth the hassle and amount of work involved? I'll be installing the footwell lights soon too

I'm sure it's not...ill be doing footwell lights too soon...not sure how to wire into correct plug or where correct plug is... Let us know if you find where to wire it to control it.. Maybe VAGyoda @DJAlix can let us know?
