hi all. I've just came across this site and as I'm looking to buy a used Audi soon, I thought this may be a good place to start. I would be very grateful for any advice on what to look out for in my search. I'm after an Audi TT roadster Quattro 225bhp. as it will be an older car and I'm no mechanic I'm in a bit of a tizz really.
Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

John probably be on tomorrow, he is on most days

Thank you. Much appreciated.

Ask away, how can I help? I ran an S3 quattro manual with the same 225bhp engine; have had a 3.2 quattro DSG MK1 roadster, and currently a 2.0 quattro DSG MK2 roadster: and would recommend any and all of them with zero downside. I think the MK2 TT is much improved both mechanically and interior trim (in my opinion) over the MK1 TT though I love the shape of the MK1.

Remember that the platform is basically an Audi A3 and/or Golf, etc., so is well proven; the drivetrain robust, and they don't rust much.

Buy the lowest mileage of whatever and if possible with full service history though not necessarily an Audi dealer history; purchase from a private seller of a 'much loved car' should not be ignored; I say this as I've yet to purchase a second hand Audi from anyone that I haven't had to sort the usual items (brake discs and pads and tyres usually) to my own satisfaction but then that's just me, safety first.

Lots on PistonHeads both fixed and ragtop; 3.2 also and depending on what you want the car for a 3.2 with DSG shouldn't be discounted.

So ask away...

Hi Sandra
:hi:

Hi there. Thanks for your input. I would love the 3.2 but alas I have to think of the running costs so it will be the 18T and Deffo the 225. I have been looking but any low mileage has been well over book price. I seen one with 47thou on the clock but it was up for 6.800 which is ridiculous, in my opinion, (whether that means anything) I've also noted that most of the tts advertisements have mentioned that cam belts have been changed, is this something that the tts have problems with ? Like I said I know next to nothing about cars, just basics. Although I probably have a tad more knowledge than most middle aged women. Lol. I'm not in a rush to buy one which I think may give me an advantage.

This is always the first issue to all I've helped and it goes on: 1) how much do you want to spend, 2) Straight purchase or swap, 3) Body colour, 4) Trim colour, 5) How far do you want to travel, and on.

Take care referencing middle age women, I have one already
:yahoo:

The cambelt needs to be changed at 80K miles and/or every 5-years as they degrade with age - and this is similar for all engines with cambelts. A cambelt is quieter option than chains and is why they were first fitted but the current trend is to go back to chaindrive as these last much longer.

Back to the TT; a 210BHP version is just as good and maybe better if funds are an issue; not much difference in typical road performance and the looks, unless you know, are pretty much the same

But go for the best you can afford otherwise you're always going to be disappointed wishing you'd spent that little bit more.

GREAT cars, all of 'em.. :racer:

Where are you Dizzy? I'm in Staffordshire.

But give me a spec to work with: Price, colour, distance from you, etc... and I'll see what's available :readit:

see eBay: 2003 Audi TT Roadster, 1.8 Turbo (Warwickshire)

PM me if needed and/or is best

I'm in Coventry. I'm after the 225 bhp with leather interior not really bothered about the colour although I don't like the silver . Ideally just a couple of owners , low mileage well maintained. The perfect secondhand car really
And it's got to be the cab. I understand buying a rag top in the summer months can add money so I don't mind waiting until later in the year as at the moment I have an Slk convertible. I have been looking for a couple of months and have come across a few but all were the other side of the country. I've. Scotland

Hi Dizzy, from another 'middle aged woman'! Excellent advice above from John - definitely get the best you can afford, there are a lot of bad ones out there, and don't let your heart rule your head. The better, low mileage examples seem to be holding their value, so you may have to pay a bit more. Forums are worth their weight in gold and have saved me a fortune in the 4 years I've owned mine.

Don't forget that the Mk1 (the only one to buy in my opinion of course) is now quite an old car, so be prepared for wear and tear repairs. I consider mine to be one of the better examples, but I've still had to change the cambelt, waterpump, discs and pads, brake servo, thermostat and temp sensor! Watch out for a pixelating dashpod and the car not reaching 90 degees. Both relatively easy and lowish cost repairs (around £120 each), but a faff nonetheless.

Dizzy, there are 10-cars eBay listed within 60-miles of you and three: 8) 9) and 10), that are at the top of your budget but that you should take a good look at; come back to me if you want further opinion. I prefer as STD a car as possible hence my comments of non-STD wheels, etc., and for that reason I think you should strongly consider #10; and it's a good advert with good photographs and wording...

Details sent in a PM... :readit:

I've just had a look in the marketplace sections of the TT Forum and TT Owners Club forum, as I'm very active on both, but nothing worth looking at I'm afraid.

You're kidding me: 2002 at £3795 ono and only 80000 miles with full leather and with a new MOT and full service history and 6-months warranty and cam belt and clutch done and and it ain't Silver; blimey, I might go buy it myself....

Hey Dizzy, good morning; did you get my PM and have you had a perusal of those cars available?

Do you want me to look further?

Hope you not buying more cars John? :) X

Trying to be GOOD, Sandra... :hi: Though I've just spotted a 1958 650cc Triumph Trophy 100% restored in Octane magazine - but already sold: I'd have to pass me bike test mind but like everything else that'd just be a challenge: RS3copilot said 'go buy it'... :sadlike:

****** hell: is that the 6th Beatle ?!?!?

Fooled ya! So long ago I can't remember; but it's not me in the car, I could never grow a beard like that; but we'd just done a fabulous, but 'chill' :cold:, 100-mile run to Stratford-upon-Avon and back: the front end looks like this, hence the motorcycle theme:

Morgan Kettle 1x

Doesn't always have to be modern and/or quattro to have FUN; this machine was QUICK, not fast, but ****** QUICK; and MEAG easy to SLIDE the single-wheel rear-end...:racer:

And certainly more BHP/ton than an Audi TT :superman:
