gone to put some led's in today and one side is completely siezed on at the grub screw. Also noticed my lock barrel wont turn left or right suspect this is another common issue with the plinth corroding due to being aluminium ?

Anyone know the cost from TPS for one ??

Regarding the lock, I had this on a vag car before, half a can of wd40 later, one fully functional lock. I think dirt ingress is the culprit.

Not sure of the cost, but I rescued mine from my 2002 Avant. I had to take the tailgate trim off, and then remove the aluminium panel. On a bench, it was much easier to remove. I then replaced the stupid screws with stainless allen bolts, with a hefty dose of coppaslip.

The issue with mine is that the position of the number plate means that the screwdriver is not square with the head of the screw, and that, added with the electrolytic corrosion makes for difficult removal.

Good luck.

Pete

I had a nightmare with this. Eventually I had to drill the screw out as its made of cheese.

I got super duper LED's on my licence plate lights from Ebay. If you want pics Bradderz head over to mybuild.

..I suspect you will need pliers and a drill. I dont think you need to remove the Plinth.

Its just the way the screw is angled to the boot lid im thinking if i can get a new plate light i can maybe break the old one and get some grips on the screw head and try get some purchase on the screw failing that il probably do what you have done again though its the angle off the boot that makes things difficult getting at it with a drill.

Yes, all true. Very tricky with the shape of the damn boot lid in relation to how the number plate light sits.

Thats exactly what i did...break the plastic housing which holds the light and you will gert more 'grip' on the b*stard screw.
Get a new light and housing.

Also, spray the 2 copper panel connectors with electrical cleaner (from maplins) works a treat as the connectivtiy is sometimes iffy.
