hey

in short i hope to purchase a car in october/november and il be honest im confused with the whole matter and hoped to clear some of it up a tad.

my current plan is an approved S3 8v sportback or saloon i like both via car finance on lloyds as it was much cheaper deposit wise anyway, that what my local audi offered (16k down and 400 pcm on a 31k car ) the issue is now the new reg is coming next month would i be better to try blag a 'new' if there are discounts about on sitting stock ? or seeing as i cant do any toying until warranty or finance is up going for a lease for maybe a current rs3 if theres any about as the audi website doesnt let you create a new one anyway

my budget is 30 k ish but i could rise a little bit or just wait a few months to get another few thousand to play with? just seen a few reviews about the s3 being a bit conservative /under the radar and would like to have a plan b if i dont like it on a test drive hopefully in september as i have a week off work

thanks in advance for reading my illerate rambling !

If I'm reading your figures correctly then I would say you could easily get a new S3...
I'm sure a few members on here could steer you in the right direction on any deals to be had....Don't be too hasty in buying one just yet if like you said you can wait a while.Shop around..:friends:

Yep, and I certainly wouldn't say they're conservative..............maybe feel a little less quick than they actually are but a test drive will put yer mind at rest anyway :)

Go for the saloon, you don't want a bouncy castle after all??!! lol

Wander in and see what they have lying around in group stock, there are some facelifts lying around now, I got offered a few (but none with the spec I wanted/colour/etc).

But go in armed with some deals from brokers and/or carwow, the likelyhood is that the dealer will match it.

current plan is an audi approved probably 15 s3 in which case i provide the deposit and monthly payments over 60 months and then the car is mine and this should be achieveable in october early november for me it would depend what is available via that route or would there be such a small difference in just getting a new one with any discounts available having never ordered a new car i haven't a clue what to look for or expect

in terms of conservative on the s3 my last car was a 2003 golf r32 with a supercharger conversion making 344 bhp and 300 torque which was for lack of a better word raw in my personal oppinion being 24 i freely admit im still into fast and loud and not quite into the quiet and refined as per some of the reviews i have read so just incase i dont get on so well with the s3 with that being auto having only had manual cars before or just too refined in terms of power or soundtrack i would be forced into looking at an 8p rs3 or god forbid i get an ultimate win and get offfered an 8v rs3 on a favourable deal before the new one next year according to google ?

but safe to say i will be asking the exeter audi to bring in a stronic 8v s3 to test drive as they currently dont have any on the forecourt , arent the carwow etc only for new builds ? wouldnt they be much closer to audi rrp or essentially lease deals ?

Ask for cars in stock and check for discounts. I see used 1 yr old cars that are still more expensive than I paid for a brand new factory build....

ok great so its possible a new build would work out cheaper than an existing on stock car ? are the discounts likely to change with the impending new rs3 or new reg in september ? or is it all basicaly luck with whats about at what cost/discount at the time ?

I think the official Audi discounts (campaigns) tend to only change at the start of each sales quarter....?

For the most part, yes, although individual franchises can offer their own incentives above and beyond anything from Audi UK.

@th1991 As for asking about "stock", be aware that we are talking about NEW stock, cars that have been ordered by the dealer (or the group of dealers) and are available either as an impending build slot, or as a car that's in the UK but unregistered. These usually have the best available deals leveraged against them as they are cars that the dealerships are committed to paying for, regardless of if a customer has ordered one or not.

The RS3 has no discounts with whats left on stock they are either £50k plus with uber spec or £44k poor spec mate and build slots/arriving stock of the S3 maybe a little thin on the ground just now my advice wait til February /March 2017 the RS3 saloon will be available to order by then but again that's going to be a £50k car and you'll have more choice on any S3 stock models/showroom cars

i assumed youd need to speak to the indivual franchises to find out discounts ? yeah that makes sense i suppose the only thing to do would be to just ask the question once i speak to the local audi and go from there

i suppose theyve sold well enough to not need discounts, yeah ive just had a little look on auto trader and theres 3 blue ones for 40k but all 3 have white interior which isnt for me but thats another story, i think i will stick to my audi approved s3 plan for now but its very usefull to know a few bits about the options on the table , i mean a new rs3 without a massive deal just isnt on the cards , im currently saving 1000 a month but i dont fancy making payments of 1000 once i pick the car id like too

Can only vouch for 2 franchises that I went to but they definitely do vary. One of mine was taking the absolute p1ss with the used S3 saloon we demo'd................basically I bought a factory order model with a better spec than the price they were quoting for used with 8k on the clock!!

None of this is cast in stone and as said above may come down to how many dealers you have in striking distance and how good yer negotiating/blagging skills are ;)

i thought as much, my plan is to test drive an s3 at my local audi 1.1miles away which is exeter audi but according to the website theres 8 within 66 miles which is all travel able to me but closer the better ! thats what im trying to avoid , my lloyds finance calculator changes but its about 30-31k is where id like to be to be comfortable repayments but theres wiggleroom , and if that means a better deal on audi approved or new il guess i will find out !

as far as my blagging skills go there not too much but in regards to this i believe im in the driving seat as theres many franchises and cars i can go too so and a few model options depending on prices or how i like the drive , but thanks to you and everyone else thus far its given me some weapons in my arsenal !

Your main hurdle will be trying to strike a deal while avoiding their finance options. What is the rate on your Lloyds finance and how does it compare with Audi new car finance?

Not sure what the rate is on hire purchase? Same as a PCP at 6.7%?

Absolutely mate, you don't need to be Arfur bleedin Daley just play one franchise off against the other as a bare minimum.

i figured id do alrite because in essence to audi its a straight sale with lloyds stumping up the cash and i pay them. last time i checked in june ish the salesman wanted 7k down with 398 pcm with a balloon payment so i said no so he replied it would be 16k down and 400 pcm to avoid a baloon payment based on a 31k sportback , lloyds is 10k down on a 31k sportback with 370ish pcm it works out about 2k interest over 5 years but there isn't any early repayment fees so i would probably clear it earlier

oh yeah im all over that ! i have a week off start of september so i was going to devote a day or 2 spamming audis countrywide and adding in delivery for the further distances and asking for discounts and options for approved s3 versus new s3 vs 8p rs3 vs new rs3 on pcp maybe ? i will settle down on which one i want after some quotes im sure ! but 100 percent after ive driven the s3 , rs3 was only if i didnt like the s3

Unfortunately not...they can offer large discounts on new cars bought over PCP because they recoup so much money back in interest over the finance term. If you are giving that interest to someone else, why would they be incentivised to give you just as big of a discount?

Generally the Audi contribution is only applied if you take out a finance package. You will not be able to get that right off the bat. I can't imagine the level of discount will be at the same level either.

They don't want cash buyers. Particularly cash buyers wanting a respectable level of discount that those on PCPs can easily obtain....

Of course you could be sneaky, act as though you are buying using PCP, get the higher discount and Audi contributions, then just pay it all off with your Lloyds finance within 14days.....

....dont expect a bottle of bubbly from the salesman though.....

There are also implications about taking out two finance packages in such quick succession that I wouldn't personally be all that too comfortable with, but I imagine it is still done...

ah yes this is a very good point i completely didn't think about , its a shame i dont think audi finance can match lloyds so i wouldnt be able to save the difference and it equal the baloon at the end , but that being said i would personally consider them a bad salesman if they cant work with a customer to make a sale, either way audi approved on 30-32k with lloyds is doable on track for octobers pay but it does limit my options and yes as you say i wouldnt like to take out 60ks finance to try get some discount

Couldn't agree more....its so wrong that they aren't willing to sell you a car at the same price without selling you finance as well...bit of a banned word here, but I happen to know a BMW dealer that gives excellent discounts, and it's regardless of whether you buy on finance or with cash. How it should be!

I have done PCP for my current car, but won't be going for a new car again. I have decided to go back to personal loans to supplement my savings and buy 2/3 years old models...of course everyone has different wants and needs, so best of luck getting the car mate :)

it is what it is i suppose , until i actually stroll in and have a look see i wont know for certain anyway, a guy in work has just got a m135i on finance with a really good deal actually which is making me want to find out when i see the saleman in a few weeks . any reason why you wouldnt go new again ? i personaly dont like the idea of paying all the the money and not owning it till the end after a baloon payment , i originally looked at 8p rs3 for the exact reason i didnt think i could afford a newer one without audi finance but im sure it will all work out in the end and i shall post here every step of the way for advice from the fine fellows here appreciate the help mate

Yep that was my understanding of it too mate.................otherwise why the hell would local dealers be trying to compete with online quotes from carwow and the like??

Theres a small print that X amount is based on buying with a PCP. Usually this is about half of the Audi contribution.

Just because depreciation is too high...2 yr old model is not any less special to me, and as long as I can find one with good options and colours, I'm happy. Typically able to afford a car with more options as options are a big increase in finance.

I'm also looking at the M235i....(shhhh!)

Yes true. On a S3 SB you get an extra £500 for taking a PCP but this is a fraction of the discount you can get. So getting a good discount online then putting a large deposit and complementing with a personal bank loan at 3.4% rather than Audi rip off 6.8% is a decent option.

Yes that would make sense since the contribution on a S3 SB is only £900. I take your point, its hardly worth worrying about in that case...when the contribution is £2400, it makes a bit more of a difference, but as you rightly say, still not more than the difference in interest, which is in the thousands £££!

Oh and on CarWow it's not small print...its actually rather obvious...

Helped me a lot for my S5. But then I got a quote from Coventry and got my local to match. They seemed to always provide good discount. The new format of the site that only allows 5 dealers, or the inactivity of Coventry, made it pretty useless when negotiating potential A/S3 deals...

To be honest I guess I could just cut out the middle man and go direct to Coventry :p

I came to the S3 after 2 years in an M235i, the Audi despite its criticisms was a breath of fresh air in terms of ride, body control & agility.

Go on the Audi Configurator....its easier to configure the optioned....car....on that site as it shows you basically what is...and looks like....save that configuration....the site will give a code for every saved configuration......send that to the best discounting dealerships...ie coventry audi etc.....that makes it simpler all round for both you and the dealer

i did a car wow saloon quote and not having had a new car ever i just fell into the i need everything trap and probably added a few things i dont need and it seems to let you add things which are already in packs youve added so i think i could lower it quite a fair bit but its come out at like 46k ! but ive been offered 8.1%,8.1% 7.1% 3.1% and finally 10% so iassume once ive done a proper one i could use it as leverage that obviously each dealer can drop some ? confused as different colours on car wow rather than audi website too ?
