Hi,

Haven't been on here for a long time as I sold my last S3 four years ago but browsing ebay I came across it for sale...

The main thing that jumped out is that I sold it with FSH and 150k on it in 2012 and it now has no history and only 117k on it...

I don't want to give anyone a shock as someone could of bought it in good faith but it is the same car as in my avatar which should narrow it down.

Cheeky buggers! I've done well over 200k but never once thought about clocking it back! Quite easy to do with VCDS

You could report it via Ebay and have the ad taken down.

Found it, I sold it just before the MOT was due so the guy who bought it clocked it :rage::rage::rage: What an absolute pillock.

Just shows you should always check the DVLA MOT history database online - they can't "clock" that!

This has made a huge difference to the world of used cars - I well remember the classifieds 15 years ago....no cars on there with more than 70k miles and most seemed to be a "magic" 49k miles on the nose...even obvious ex rep 10 year old Mondeos and Cavaliers seem to have led quite lives with an average mileage of only 4k a year (yeah right) as opposed to the 170k miles during their motorway-bashing lives attending meetings up and down the M1,M6 etc etc.

Shouldn't the garage who wrote the MOT also be partly to blame?
I mean, surely they saw on their computer the previous MOT when issuing the new one?....or maybe they don't.

If not - they should and report it at the same time to the police. Is it not a criminal offence?...it should be!

It's not actually illegal to alter the milage of a car, that's why there's so many "milage correction services" out there.

However, it IS illegal to sell on a car with adjusted milage, and not informing the buyer. . .

This should really be reported to someone (not quite sure who, DVLA? VOSA?), and it should be fairly easy to trace who the guilty party is.

Maybe he changed the clocks to fix missing pixels.

its stored on the clocks and ecu, when u swap the clocks it will show the clock mileage but the real mileage is still stored on the ecu, clock mileage can be changed to 0.0 if u want with something like vag tacho but you will still be able to check the vehicles true ecu mileage via vcds

That's naughty then - even if the engine is changed for one that did 90K the cars mileage is a lot more than an engine.

Did he get back to you?

Yes, we spoke on the phone, guy was understandably gutted and I didn't enjoy being the bearer of bad news.

It certainly seems to be the case that the guy who bought it off me chucked the full folder of history and receipts in the bin and then wound 60k off the clocks.

Very annoying as the car was a fantastic example and had pretty much every receipt from new as I was only the second owner.

The ironic thing is that the only reason I sold it was because I felt to get any sort of fair money for the car it was time to let it go as I do around 16k - 20k a year and I had hit 150k already.

@ruairi83 @Ian W I read this last week. Probably not the best news but maybe you can get in touch with Ian
Cheers bud.

No history with car and I had idea it was clocked. I honestly don't care as I bought it for weekend car and to clean up and service etc myself. Just Gona enjoy it as weekend once I get a good going over it. As Ian says. Id prefer if it has every receipt and folder of history and 220k as that's means more than having nothing. I didn't pay anywhere near asking price so I'm fine with it. I did mileage check and it came back with no records lol
