Since having the Spec clutch with smf i am getting some vibration in the cabin under load , i take it this is normal for the smf? its not bad but it is noticeable , also i have missed 4th gear a couple of times , will the short shift and 42dd bush kit help ?I also have the powerflex dogmount bush so i guess this also stiffens things up as well .

Smf is louder and does give vibrations.
I doubt that short shift and bush kit will help. Was your shifter realigned good after clutch install?

Do you mean the gear leaver ?
i just want the short shifter and bush kit to make the change a bit more precise , its ok most of the time but i gave it some beans earlier and must of rushed the change upto 4th as i missed it , the gear changes are quite close on the Audi i find , it could just be me though .

just had a read up about re aligning the shifter by loosening off the two bolts under the gear leaver , under the car obviously , not sure if AKS would do this or not ?

Jup. Shift cables actually, they adjust at the ends. I ask because 3-4 is pretty straight forward.
Short shifter and bush kit will help with the feel with shorter throws and solid bushings.
I'we got all of the above and gear shifts for me were ruined with loba/sachs single mass kit. It feels really great but on wot, gear changes can't be made fast, sometimes it won't go into a gear, or even makes you miss the gear.
Hope you won't have the same issues i have.
After lots of research i found that the reason is input shaft on some gearboxes that are shorter or have play. There are some kind of shims that aparently help with it. I still have to try and solve that issue.
But as i said hope you won't have those issues.

No not there. Under the bonnet on top of the gearbox where the cables meet selectors.

to be honest its fine 95%of the time , my main concern was the vibration at a slow speed in 5th and 6th , before i had the clutch fitted i could drive at say 30 mph in 6th no problem , i still can now but if i excelerate slightly i get some vibration , almost sounds like the exhaust if you know what i mean , drop down a gear and its ok .

i don't think its like that , it is most likely me rushing the change , the gear leaver feels slightly vague , i will fit the short shift and bush kit and maybe play around with the cables and see if it makes any difference , I must say the car feels amazing now after my visit to R tech .

Jup i know what you mean. Vibration in 5-6 at low revs is silly.
You can try that as it isn't costly upgrade and it feels amazing.
Stg2+ is awsome.

From what i read its because the smf doesn't balance like the dmf , its not a problem I just like to be sure .

Ordered the Hell hoses , just looking at which fluid to buy and a how to fit it all guide , it's been a while since I changed calipers etc , if it's going to be awkward I will get my local usual boys to fit the kit .

Nice dinner you got there:rock:

Ok the clutch , firstly the pedal is not really any different to oem. the car is now very chattery on idle but i knew that would happen with the smf.

Just been out in the car and its ok this morning ,no chattering either

Hi Michael, love what you have been doing with your S3 recently, a lot has been happening and in a very short amount of time!

I'm just planning ahead for stage 2+ of which I'm stuck on the clutch again. Have you got a video of what your Spec 2+ clutch & SMF is like at idle please? This is the only thing putting me off the Spec.

I was previously after the Sachs Organic Clutch & LUK DMF but some people still suffer from slip with these and they don't like launches as well. The Sachs Sintered Clutch & LUK DMF has also been recommend, however this is a paddle type which lots of people say are horrible to use.

Yes too much has happened tbh and I am going to be slowing right down now due to funds , as for the clutch is did chatter a bit at first but it's gone really quiet now and I don't really notice it , it was slightly more difficult to get the gear change smooth but that also seems a lot better now , I would definitely consider the Smf , the only thing I will warn you about is if you are in a high gear driving slowly and then excelerate you do get some vibration through the chassis , it soon goes but it can be slightly annoying at times .

That's great to hear, thanks for your feedback I appreciate it as chatter was the only thing that was concerning me about the Spec & SMF option. Ignoring gear 1 and 2 then I dislike going anywhere near 1500rpm, especially in higher gears, so the latter should not come into play.

Nice build, coming along nicely :) Enjoyed reading!

what setting is your arbs set to and what do you think of them
Do you know I never even asked that question when AKS fitted the arbs , whatever they are on they have made a huge difference to the whole car , it's so much more planted now and far more stable , I also think the white line anti lift kit has helped also , both are a good move imo .

OK thanks for that

I think the general consensus and this is how I have them, is hard on the front and soft on the rear

car porn this thread for sure! did you protect those rotor hubs with some POR or hammerite? My only issue with the RS3 grill mod is the fog light surrounds. I followed the advice of others and had them painted gloss black to match. I really like that combination. The short plate is perfect. Nice work!
