Speak to Kim at QST, he told me he could source a Sachs one!

Bump this thread,

Also possibly looking for a stronger clutch for my manual box, mine isnt slipping but the standard clutch is way too light and feels 'vague', I'd prefer a more robust unit that would help support my power ambitions whilst I'm at it.

Any current information about? What are the heavily modded folk using?

Sachs Performance Clutch 4 Paddle Sintered. Check out VRS Northampton web site they have them that's what I'm going for.

I'm going Revo stage 2 soon and waiting to seen how the clutch handles. There's someone with this clutch and running a TTE525 with 550bhp and he says it's fine. It uses the OEM dualmass flywheel so gets my thumbs up.

Cheers for that, I'll look into it. I presume its not overly heavy for town work? I dont want a vague clutch but equally dont want to struggle around normal driving conditions.

Seems my local tuner has these in stock, unfortunately the fitted price is ~£1k. Might leave it a month or two to hide the cost from the missus :p

I'm only stage 1 but the reasons I'm considering it are, vague clutch as standard, future proofing if I do go beyond stage 2 & ideally a greater margin for 'abuse' for hard launching etc.
I'm currently weighing up the cost / pros and cons as I intend on getting an RS in a couple of years & working my way up the pecking order so to speak!

Can you keep this updated if you go for it with your stage 2?

Yeah @Alli_RR i will. I'm going to be fitting all my stage to gear in the next month or so and the be going stage 2. I'll see how the OEM clutch takes it then we will see ha.

That is correct, my mate Dave Henderson has the Sachs clutch on his Mrc tuned s3 it's running 538hp and is holding just fine.

S tronic guys/ you need a tcu remap to increase the clutch clamping force to stop clutch slip, I've had this done and it stopped the slip in 5th gear on my car, currently 401hp and is great, Apr did the tcu map for me

Yeah that's who I had asked regarding this clutch.

Is there anyone running stage 2 on OEM clutch ?

Ecotune sell updated Sachs clutches for golf r/ s3 they only have 2 on the website but I phoned and they now do a 6 paddle clutch which should be easier to drive as a daily but can handle between 460 and 470 lb/ft of torque which is plenty! I have just ordered this!! Il let you know how it is when it's fitted!

Also I was speaking to Dave Henderson and he is running a 4 paddle clutch but is slightly brutal for daily use and you will have a left calf muscle that you could kick down walls with! For that reason I admire Dave ;)

It won't be long till I forge my engine and go to the next level then we will see just how the clutch holds on lol. Think I might need to go twin plate to handle big power

Are you local to ecotune buddy? Any chance when youve got your clutch fitted I can come check it out?

No I'm in London I'm getting it delivered and fitting it down here :D

Bit of a trek for me then, my current clutch would probably be wrecked by the time I got there lol.

Anyone semi local who'd be willing to let me feel the weight of one of these Sachs doodahs?

Where are you located Alli??

Near loch lomond Dave, I'm usually kicking about here, Hamilton or I'm fairly regular at Knockhill.

Quick bump, just about to push the button on a 6puck sachs unit but I've been recommended a mk6 Golf Gti dual mass fly? Anyone else running this setup?

The S3 has a dual mass fly.

VRS Northampton do a full kit if you contact them I'm sure they will enlighten you.

I'm trying to get the time to fit everything then I'll be all go haha

Are you doing it yourself??

Ive gone for the sach 6puck with gti fly. Booked in for the 3rd so we'll see how it goes!

No not the clutch, I've got down pipe, intercooler, new radiator, throttle pipe and turbo outlets to fit. Then I'll stage 2 and see how I get on before a clutch.

Quick update on this, my 6pucker fell through due to some miscommunication, also now I've done some more research and asked some more questions I'm unconvinced the organic is the way to go. My car currently produces around 420ftlb so if I intend on upping the game and go up the stages then the peak figures around the Sachs organic is too easily at risk.

Anyone else made the jump with their manual clutch? @Daveheson what set up do you have please mate? I know youre running way more power than I intend but itd be good to know from your experience before I take the plunge! :p

Cheers all,

I think the 4 puck is the way to go.

@Alli_RR hows your standard clutch taking that torque?

Not well Mike, it slips under heavy load about 50% of the time. I've had a fair few launch comparisons and roll on sessions with my brothers (new Focus RS & Stage 3 ST) and a mate with a remapped 135i and I'm still able to pull away whilst managing the slip, but its no fun. Day to day its fine though.

I guess the paddle is my only option as I seem to be at an awkward power level!!
Does anyone have any experience of the paddle? Can I use dual mass fly? Or is single mass fly the only option? Is the single mass noticibly louder than OEM? I dont mind the leg work out with the clutch but if the fly is rattly/noisy I'd rather avoid it.

Thanks,

Thanks,

VRS Northampton do it mate, and they use the duel mass. I'm sure that's where a lot of people have gone.

How long have you had your map on? When did it start slipping ?
