These were asked about the other day in the "what have you done to your car" thread by @RyanCudlip but thought I'd give them their own thread

What do people think about these?

I'm semi-interested in them, but not sure if they'd be 'in the way' when trying to put your hands at 10 and 2 positions

Thoughts people?? They look really nice quality! :)

If you have a 2016 S3 you can buy 2015 S3 or RS3 paddles which are an inch and half (or thereabouts) longer.

@Rob2k68 the ones on the left are the ones I have... are you referring to the ones on the right as being the longer ones? How are they removed?

One of my biggest annoyances tbh - I much prefer the paddles on the right with the "cold feel plastic" but every time I look there's not really any sets about. Also don't know if it'll be a straight swap when my car finally lands in September so will have to wait and see.

I don't mind the cold feel, and sometimes think it would be handy if the existing paddles were longer so you could use the from the 10 and 2 position more comfortably

But just not 100% sure on that look... If it is too "racecar" lol

Wonder if you could make the 997 GT3 paddles fit...?

Hmm having been out in the car now I've got a feeling these extensions may get in the way if they were installed and you'd knock your hands on them occasionally when gripping the wheel... Not sure... And that won't be a valid excuse to send them back for a refund haha

Looks like they'll also block the speedo from 140mph plus LoL !!

My car is an MY16 car and has the aluminium version of the one that's on the left.
As for the one on the right is this the newer version of my paddles or are they the older type?
Here is a pic of mine....

I think Audi put the shorter ones on 2016 cars as an extra way to differentiate the RS3 which kept the longer paddles. Personally I prefer the stubier ones.

Is there a different feel when pressing the new paddles? I have the longer ones and would wish to have more travel in them really.

No, functionality is pretty identical if anything the shorter ones feel a little more direct. It's mostly aesthetic - I didn't like the black plastic inserts in the longer ones and like them just proud of the steering wheel - the silver bits are chrome plastic anyhow no external metal in either of them.

The new R8 also comes with the shorter paddles fitted so at least we can say we have R8 paddles LoL.

Yeah going from long to short wasn't that bad but at least they still had a "chromey" effect. Now they're just giving S3 owners bog standard black plastic ones that are on the regular s-tronic models (pic is from a video of the facelift S3):

Pay more for a car, get the same as a cheaper car. Okay maybe i'm being a bit too critical but you know what i mean ;) Looks like i'll be having to keep more of an eye out on the 2015 model paddles on eBay!

Why carnt the paddles just stay still so much easier. .l get some drivers like them to move with the steering wheel...

Yup I've decided... NOT going for them

The standard ones are nice in their own subtle way, and think anything more would be over the top and a bit too 'because racecar' haha :D

Like someone said, an R8 doesn't even have paddles that huge :p

Look pretty dreadful if I'm honest lol, just my opinion though :) don't look classy at all, and classy defines the interior. I think it's the sharp lines and edges I dunno, they just don't look right.

That would be terrible, how are you supposed to shift while in a long corner?

A lot of supercars have column mounted paddles - I wouldn't say either way is more terrible than the other.

You could say that about the fixed paddles on the back of the steering wheel, turn it 180 degrees and now the shift up and down paddles are on opposite sides? It's swings and roundabouts lol.

When driving in manuall ur brain is usually in tune where the paddles are ..as ur only in manuall for a reason :) when driving in auto & come to an unexpected corner usally still in 6rh if in comfort! !! I like to know where the paddles are ...just my opinion.
