As above my long awaited turbocharger has arrived and will be fitted and mapped over the next two days. Cannot wait to see/feel the difference.
Turbo dynamics completed the work for me and have been fantastic through out.
Car is currently 311bhp and I will get it dyno'd again next week to see exactly what we have made

look forward to seeing your results.i was going to do mine this month but just got some wheels so will have to wait a while longer.:frown new:

I will be sure to post up how we get along
Nooooo! Power first!

Turbo looks good, what size are the compressor and turbine wheels? . If it's anything like mine when I changed the turbo you will lose some of that instantaneous low down shove but swap it for a much stronger mid range / top end pull.

Comp wheel is 63/65mm extended tips. They weren't able to put a larger turbine wheel in, in the end so took a bit of material out and basically done what they could. Back pressure could be an issue but we shall see.
A small sacrifice at the bottom end will be acceptable!

Haha fair enough!

You shouldn't lose much at the bottom end if the turbine is essentially the same, it will lose some of it's low down response from the cutback and the slightly larger compressor mass . Good choice on the compressor size you don't need to go mad .

Thanks Karl. I was caught between going as big as possible and listening to James at turbo dynamics who was my voice of reason!
I'm guessing I won't make quite as much as yours due to being restricted by the standard size turbine wheel?

My experience with TD is they still build crap hybrids and they still clip back the turbine in an attempt to hide the poor compressor choice !

Thanks for that. We shall see.
Karls was done by tdi turbos I believe.

Please do not confuse Tdi turbos with Turbo Dynamics they are 2 different companies ! Adam atTdi Turbos built many turbos on my requests including a few dozen hybrids but i never asked to clip the turbine. Turbo Dynamics are a totaly different outfit focused on making money- they only upgrade the compressor and don't touch the hotside and claim to fit a 360 degrees trust bearing when every Garrett VNT turbo i have seen from 2000 onwards has one !

Karl's gtb2260vk hybrid is a hybrid with a AMG turbine (twin stagered gap oil seals) and matching billet compressor 6+6 blades...I had a few of these built for me too... I have tried every wheel trim and turbine combination there is and for a slow revving diesel a 6+6 blades compressor outflows the 11 blades GTX style compressor wheels !

Guess I'll throw it in the bin and start again then! Anyone want a poorly made hybrid gtb2260vzk for five quid and a lift to the station?? Lol

I am not saying it's a poorly made hybrid however clipping the turbine stops the turbo from creeping which improve spool low down but it's just a poor attempt at covering a poor compressor/turbine match ! As bobby mentioned above, why clip an already small turbine ? I would clip a turbine when you have a large ?gt25, gt23) turbine and a large 69mm compressor to get better spool low down however it's not requires with a small compressor upgrade ! I will be very, very surprised if it does more than 10-20 Bhp on top of what a stock gtb2260vk can do !

Mine is a VZK and I've been told by three different people/tuners that a bigger turbine won't go into my turbo, something to do with where the vnt sits. Therefore TD done the best they could with it.
I shall get it back on the Dyno next week and then we will see exactly what I've gained.

Good luck - hope you get the performance you're looking for.

Had a few issues arise over the last few weeks. Egr valve messing around and leaky injector. So rectifying this Friday and giving the car a service too. And then getting another map put on the car fri/sat. Fingers crossed she'll be running lovely for the weekend and I can get another Dyno run booked up!
Have got a new rs4 replica front grill fitted and a custom turbo inlet pipe last week so it's getting there!

How did go Joe?

Shame you didn't time your car say 100-200kmh then again to see real world gains.

Interesting views on turbine clipping.

Please share your 311bhp dyno and any info about the day was it hot or...

Interested as also own a 3.0tdi same as yours and i did a hybrid a while back for, but haven't decided to fit one to my TDI yet...

Well had another file wrote but noticed sod all difference to be fair so I've booked the car in with another company for a custom map on their Dyno for the 11th Aug...Hopefully I'll have more luck this time round! Car still feels pretty quick even running the old file but I'm confident there's more to be had, especially as I don't even get a puff of smoke now. The new turbo has cleared loads of unburnt fuel up so there should be room for more fuel now and boost too!

Who were and are you using for mapping?

This was the print out. Video wouldn't load but it was mainly tyre noise so no real loss!
Day was humid so I'm sure the car was struggling a little and the intercooler wasn't getting nearly the flow it needed but hey.
I may well take the car back to the same Dyno after the next remap and get a direct comparison. Apparently they can overlay the graphs too so I can see exactly where power is being made at what rpm with the new turbo etc

My local garage/tuning company fast road conversions use a guy who used to work for vw. The problem being not his or their work but more as he isn't "in house" it's a slow process getting changes to files made. The first file he wrote was spot on so can't fault his knowledge.
I've gone to jf automotive as they will do it all on their Dyno-saving me a job in itself but more than that we can see exactly how the car behaves and alter accordingly to get the most from it. Rather than going away, seeing how it drives, pop back in for a few changes etc. Bit of a ball ache

Yes with 2mm extended tip blades I believe

Joe fit a bi turbo MAF and 4 bar map sensor - then you came measure more than the stock 900kg/h.
I run 4 bar even on stock 2260 if the gearbox is not a 6hp 19.

The V6 burns fuel really well and can consume alot of fuel before smoke.
Rail pressure still stock?

Are you sure ? A 63 inducer is humongous even a gtx3076 only runs a 58 inducer stock ?

Nope, it's a compressor with 63mm exducer With 65mm ETT (extended tips)... Very small upgrade which did not need the turbine clipping... The 11blade compressor wheel also flows higher up the rev range and it's more suited to petrol engines- I tend to use 6+6 blades as they flow more low down and are quieter ! I am looking forward to see your new dyno plot...

Hi Bobby
Am I going to need to measure more than 2 bar boost pressure then?
Without these two items am I restricting potential power?
Thanks for your input.

I tried a 66 6+6 in my old vklr didn't like it hence why going back to 11 blades... I misunderstood as all I ever see is like

49.5/66+4 to explain sizes... He put it as exducer/tips not inducer/exducer+tips

You don't need to the maf although it will give you better smoke control but I stress its not needed ...

You'll need the tmap tho as you'll only be able to hit around 2.05 bar at sea level before the current sensor over ranges ...

Plus running so high upto its upper range is dangerous anyway if it runs away you won't know as it cant read any higher
