Facelift THE NEW AUDI A3 (2016 FACELIFT) – STILL AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Possible but possibly better than having to go through pages of information about that may or may not apply to any particular car. No system will be perfect.

I disagree. I'm a new member and read through the pages because I'm actually interested in the choice of car i'm in the process of making and so am willing to do some reading. If it takes people ages to realise what is a jokey post etc and then skip it onto the next one then i'm slightly concerned..

I agree that no system is perfect, but making a whole new sub forum for a facelift conversation which is only going to collapse in the next couple of months is pointless. The impression i got was to make new threads, not forums for info on the FL. I don't mind either idea of new threads or keeping this one alive, but what I think sucks is making a spin off forum for the FL only.

All that putting a sub forum is going to do is split the 8V community, but if that's what is wanted then...go ahead I guess.

I was thinking of doing the same! At what stage in the order process does "your audi" get updated with a vehicle vin?

Believe mine had it from the Prep stage but i could be wrong.

I feel having a whole new subsection would be a silly idea and agree with CarloS3

Why would it be silly please elaborate? I think it would extremely confusing not too.its not a My..model change, its a facelift change....you can't mix and match most topics with the pre facelift car as they don't have that much in common....l think all you new owners or to be owners should start using your own initiative and start posting your own threads like we guys do,don't rely on others ie older members to do so....grab the reins but ergo even that becomes confusing on the 8v topic section ..it will get longer and longer, hence you need your own Sub section..... Contribute to the forum instead relying on others too

Sorry mistac, I've no idea when it happened. I guess it could have updated anytime during the assembly stage once it was assigned one, when the question was asked today was the first time I'd looked at that section in ages, was only looking for the 8V model code and lo and behold there was my VIN.

Considering how many members on this thread that are waiting or considering getting a car very rarely contribute to other threads on this forum at all, apart from SpeedyFrog and a couple of others...hence use the forum that's what it's intended for most current owners of the 8v couldn't give rats about the facelift for one reason or another so...You should have your own wee section

So the guy who's been banging on this whole time about how there's barely any difference between the PFL and the FL is now coming back saying that it's so different it requires it's own sub section. Sounds slightly contradictory.

The looks and a few of the components have changed yes, but you can't tell me its a different car underneath, therefore it's the same car, therefore it's still an 8V, therefore why make a whole new forum for a set of cars that are in fact 8Vs?

On the topic of not contributing to other topics on the forum, do you expect people to contribute when they don't necessarily know about the model because they don't even own one yet?

I really enjoyed reading 100's of posts before joining and posting for the 1st time. Bit daunting at first but reading the many different views on various topics was how I started sorting out what I wanted for my car options wise :) Discussions on mono.pur or s tronic became like long time friends you meet for a beer or 2 or 20 :D
Most importantly it helped understanding some of the members on the forums (the most active ones) and the dynamics involved and the banter which is to be fair a big part in the life of a forum like this. No banter no joy!
Some threads may have gone off the rail pretty quickly but usually there was at least enough relevant info to make it valuable.
Honestly I'm fine with whatever is decided because I'll still read it (yes even new questions on Mono.pur or whatever it's called now extended interior upholstery).
Now that my S3 order is locked I need to move on to the more pressing matters of info on detailing the damn thing and post photos when I finally get it :footy:
@jassyo06 opened my eyes on the blue world of Audi and under other circumstances or maybe a few months later I may well have gone blue ;-) (but the force was strong in the grey). Also like many others always ready to help and give their personal experience with their car, options and setup.

Yeah but most threads on here are all about the superficial crap....just what the facelift is based on....virtual cockpit, led lights,....etc etc....lf l was buying a facelift car l would want a sub section just for these specific topics......the Guy that's banging on the PFL/FL has forgotten more than youll ever know about Audi cars...but thats besides the point...you have yet to make a valid point about why you shouldnt have a sub section

Comparing your knowledge to mine is stooping rather low, seeing as you don't know my background and the fact I worked at Audi. But hey ho, i'll carry on letting you think oh so very highly of yourself.

Fact of the matter is, it was said that the forum should get people's opinions who are new and from what i've seen, those who are getting a FL are either indifferent, or would rather just keep things as they are. But that seems to be being ignored as it would apear that those who are piping up who suggest moving the FL stuff are those who were already here prior to the FL coming onto the scene.

How many other areas of Audi-Sport have a dedicated section for facelift cars rather than chassis/full blown model changes?

Since this is an 8V section and the FL is an 8V car I don't think a full new section for the FL is necessary. My reasoning? Pretty simple and it's already been stated on this or the last page. Within the next 4-6 weeks when deliveries have taken place this thread will more than likely die a death. New members will create new threads or contribute to the ones new owners have already started and the whole FL hullabaloo will be gone. People will then just start welcome threads to show their new cars in either New Members or 8V and life will go on as normal. Am I wrong??

Been lurking these forums for quite a while now and having read all the information about the facelift, I have gone and ordered a S3 sportback.

My first Audi, excited is an understatement. :yahoo:

When the B8 A4/S4 became the FL (& unofficial B8.5) in 2012, there didn't seem a need to split the B8 section
So why the need to split the 8V section to PFL & FL ?

Personally I think the 8V section is way to full of off topic junk anyways, so this will only add to it IMO

Part of the problem is that the three sections ( 8L, 8P and 8V) for the A3 are more popular that most of the other sections on ASN p
Well aware this FL s3 has just been released, but when will the new s3 come out. Like 2018?
Perhaps we should start a new thread for the 8? next new A3 in readiness for any information? Perhaps just a little early!

You could work for Mi6 and have a surname of Bond for all I care, all you facelift guys well most are just here for the beers...to coin a phrase
My suggestion for a section for facelift guys was only that just to make it easier for new members or future members....

Here's rest of the pics as promised Cryptic. The last pic is a cable for my iPhone which plugs into one of the 2 USB ports under the arm rest. Alex at Wakefield Audi kindly gave me this and I've got to say I can recommend them thoroughly....a first class buying experience. I've got to say Audi have resisted the temptation to rip owners off on this A3 as I remember when buying the pre FL A3 last time the cable I needed to connect my phone was about £60 (gulp)

Was the last Audi you bought new too or? Only reason I ask is we always gave the MMI cables for free for new purchases and only used car buyers had to pay for the stupidly expensive cable lol

It was a used Audi mate .... Still thought it was a ridiculous price.. Maybe all the people getting their cars will get one hopefully as I suspect they will still be pretty expensive

Perhaps the mods could give jassy06 his own page on which he could pontificate away to his own contentment? He could then leave those of us who are simply excited about and looking forward to our new cars to ruminate away on this page in peace!

Moderators, what about keeping the thread open to discussion on any topic but restrict it to say, 10-15 pages or 2 weeks, whichever is the sooner and then archive the ones that fall off into the various sections for those who wish to read themselves into what has gone before. This would allow people to pick up a thread of their choice and continue with it if required. Just a thought.

Because why would/should all those new owners of an 8V Audi A3 be seperated from the great knowledge base of previous and current 8V Audi A3 owners.

I agree that this thread is no longer the answer but like what has already been said once the shine of the FL has dwindled this thread will die its death. New threads about specific ownership queries will emerge. Ones that i would expect PFL and FL owners alike could help with.

I honestly don't see what your problem with the FL and this thread is. Surely if you have no interest or couldn't care less about it you wouldn't pop up in here so often. We are are constantly told to put those we don't care to listen to on ignore yet you refuse to simply ignore this thread. Whats all that about???

Looks great in black, but it will drive you madddddd!!! :D

Yes i know :tearsofjoy: Got a Black one atm, For the 10 minutes after iv'e washed it it looks mint, and even better at night. But as soon as it moves or gets in direct sunlight, every last imperfection imaginable is visible. To get a half decent clean on it takes no less than 3 hours. Quick clean? think i read about one once, fairy tales and pipe dreams.

After all this, order a facelift, colour chosen........ Black :relieved: Got my polish at the ready for when it arrives, already plagued with holograms no doubt!

Erm am I going mad, this has matrix on the back but not the front?

Matrix rear lights? Audi are just taking the Mick now!

Im assuming you are on about the dynamic indicators? LED headlights have the indicators on the front as shown in the video. Matrix headlights have the sweeping front indicators. LED Rear lights have the sweeping indicators, included both within the LED & Matrix package.

The back looks SO much better on the FL A3.

When I looked at the back of my A3 or other S3's, I always felt it was too high even though it was on S-Line suspension. As if it was tilted forward. The new back looks a lot sportier and more balanced in my view, cribs a bit of the RS3 even.

Speaking of S-Line suspension, it's a paid option now? Does it really cost Audi that much to lower the suspension by a few mm? Considering it was free pre-FL.

You assume correctly, sorry.

I had no idea, I just thought the "sweeping" indicators were only available when you select the matrix package. In all honesty I've never been told what all the changes and tweaks are on the new FL S3 SB, I very nearly withdrew my order a few weeks ago due to lack of communication.

So I'm getting sweepy rear indicators?

Not sure about on black, but if you follow all of the golden wash rules to protect paintwork, I have found Autoglym Aqua Wax very good. Spray on the wet car after the final rinse, buff with a damp micro fibre and then buff with a dry one. Might be worth a try.

Yup, sweeping/dynamic indicators on the rear are standard on the new S3 (standard on the S-Line and up). It's for the front sweeping indicators you have to have the Matrix headlights

+1

Love that stuff. From dirty car to showroom shine in about 1 hour.

Black is one of the best looking colours, but it is the hardest colour to keep clean - never again!
