Hi all,

Was looking for the centre cap removal tool and could not find it. Anyone know where it is??

But I did find these two odd things and wasn't too sure what they were for...

Is one a really rubbish ice scraper or some kind of trim remover? Haha

The stick one is for locating your wheel on the hub, the spreader type thing is supposedly for tail light assembly tool !!

You should have the cap removal tool in the black bag along with this.

Ah quite clever. No idea why I'd ever need the tail light assembly tool though haha

In the same toolkit as all of the above, right? Hmm, I'll have to take a look again but fairly sure I didn't see anything like that.

My brother's 8P one was just a hook shaped thing made out of metal if I remember correctly

Is it nut head tool or centre caps tool your after, on my car you can't take the centre caps off, what wheels do you have.

Sorry missed your post

Yeah that looks more like it @Rob2k68! I thought it was odd actually those two small pockets in the tool bag seemed empty, the wheel nut key was on the other side I think

I'll take a look and see if it has fallen 'into' the pocket rather than how yours seems to be hanging on it

Thanks!

Hahaha @S3_Blue, what a random tool :D

I replaced the plastic wheel locater with an aluminium one from eBay. It feels much stronger, the thread won't get crossed and it looks much better. All for a few quid as well.

Here is a picture of the part I bought. 7L0012223 Its off a Touareg, they have such big heavy wheels the standard plastic thing wouldn't cope.

It was around £6 when I bought it from the dealers a few years ago. I suspect Mike might be able to do it cheaper through the parts request.
If you are unlucky and your wheels are heavyish the plastic item can break if used a few times and you then end up having to try and remove the plastic threads, not difficult but not what you want to be doing.

Never thought about it breaking like you mention, good point!

Is this tool pretty much necessary then when mounting the wheel? All my previous cars have had studs and nuts rather than bolts, so obviously the alloy was easy to locate onto the studs

It makes life so much easier as it lines the holes in the wheel with those in the hub, the weight of the wheel is taken as well by the peg.

Makes sense, thanks!

I'll check it out!

Never used the wheel locator despite having the wheels off numerous times.

I agree, it can be a pain trying to line everything up. Will give it a god next time and also look into the aluminium one.

What are people using the long torx bit for?

Seems I'm learning things about my car every day..Whilst looking at the toolkit for my car I noticed I have a 12v charger point in the boot....lol
Had I not bothered with this post I doubt I would have noticed it was there..

Thanks, makes sense now :D

It's good to be given all these tools, even if we don't use them.

It's a nice addition, although I haven't used mine yet. Rear camera perhaps?
