Hi Guys,

I just got my first Audi, a 2006 A3 Base 2.0T 6SPD and I am quite puzzled by a few quirks, I hope you guys that have or had an A3 of this gen could tell me if it is normal or not.

1. The "digital screen" in the center of the dash does not light up at all, not at start, not at any point. Is it disabled in the base version? There are no extra buttons un the wiper arm like the manual/forums say.

2. When the car is running and headlights in the position OFF, the fogs and tail lights are on (Im in Canada, we have mandatory DRL, but I guess the fogs could be a mod, I just don't understand why the tail light is onall the time withg the car running). On the switch, the "parking light" indicator is ALWAYS LIT, not sure if there are burnt bulbs and this one is standing out or anything else.

3. With parking lights on, the dash light does not light up, only when headlight is on (it was daytime, have to check during the night).

4. I was planing in replacing many bulbs with LEDS (Sylvania ZEVO some, and CREE others). Will it make a nightmare for the car's ECU? Will it get error codes/deactivation?

thank you in advance!

I guess audihave tailored the lighting to suit the Canadian laws. Quitefewcars over here use the fogs as drl.
Think the parking light is what we call coming home lights the dash has a small led under the main light switch, yes it is always on.
I you fit LEDs then you will have the bulb warning come for most lamps. You need error free bulbs to stop this. We have a site sponsor EM tuningwho supplies the correct LEDs for our cars in the UK, look him up in the site sponsors section.

Hi Soot1, thanks for the response!

When I say parking lights, I mean leaving the switch in the "middle" (two headlights symbol) http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/jAwAAOSwhkRWbyCu/s-l1600.jpg

Nothing lights up when I put in this position with the key in the ignition, except for this very symbol in green. However, if I don't have the key in the ignition, the instrument panel and red interior lights (A/C illumination, window switches, and the rest of the symbols on the headlight switch as well. Is is suppose to be like that?

I will check EM tuning.

We call the Parking lights - Side Lights, and the interior dash lights/a/c panel and exterior side lights should be on.
Does seem odd that yours won't come on, so the best way of seeing what should light up or not, is to compare your car to another Canadian A3, although I guess they are few and few between over there. Have a look for an ASN member in Canada on the Member User Map on the red button, top of the page. Try and message them about how the lights work.

Sounds like your car didn't come with the DIS (digital screen between the clocks). Otherwise you'd have the two switches on the left stalk and it would light up when you put the ignition on.

I'm not sure what the options were in Canada but if you bought the standard or SE model here, the DIS was a cost option. When it's not fitted it's just replaced with a panel of the usual idiot lights.

Yes, Audi call the SE model 'Special Equipment' model. I can't think why as it has ****** all equipment on it.

THanks for all the replies, yes, I do believe that would be the case.
